I applied to West Point last year and am currently a plebe! Lmk if y'all have any questions about the application process!

I'll be checking in periodically, because I have finals this week, but over winter break (December 13 - January 13th) I should be pretty active!
Do you get to know (of) all the cadets from your hometown/state?

What does the physical consist of on R day??
For my beast ('23), it was only height, weight, and pull-ups. During the first week of beast you will likely take a diagnostic ACFT.

This is completely dependent upon how much you socialize throughout the academic year. During beast, you won't have very many opportunities to talk to other plebes, especially outside of your company. But once the AY gets rolling, you'll be in classes with people from states you likely may have never visited before.

Sometimes, there might be WP club/group back home that treats particular cadets from your state. For me, the state that I am from has a club that occasionally orders pizza, sends corps cash, etc. to the cadets from that state. This could be an opportunity to meet people who are from your state.
What was BEAST like? Exercises? General Atmosphere? Thanks!
It seems that beast is different for each class and '24 is no exception. Obviously no other class underwent beast in the middle of a pandemic with covid restrictions and guidelines. Since I am '23, I cannot speak on that unique environment, however, I will offer my two cents anyway. A lot of cadets' success in summer training directly correlates to attitude and effort. I have never seen anyone ridiculed for putting forth their best effort, even if they end up failing. Moreover, the experiences during beast are what you make of it. Try to keep in mind that your cadre is human just like you. They are in their first rodeo, just like you. It is their first time leading and your first time following. They make mistakes all the time and don't always employ the best leadership strategies and tactics. Thus, never take anything too personally!

In short, beast is a very physically and mentally exhausting, hot, humid, extremely active, and seemingly never-ending summer camp. And then one day, it ends and it is all over lol. The minutes will feel like weeks and the weeks will feel like seconds. PM me if you have any more questions :).

For 2021 BEAST will it look more like years past or summer 2020 BEAST? Any idea or word?

Pure speculation, but I would highly anticipate the continued wear/use of masks. 2021 Beast will likely be very similar to 2020, but I would definitely expect things to run more smoothly and efficiently. Last year was the first year dealing with pandemic conditions and restrictions, so 2020 Beast was very unique. However, now that the academy has had ample time to develop a playbook and strategies for this environment, I would expect Beast to be as close to pre-covid conditions as possible. (Obviously, there will still be covid conditions and precautions though).

Does West Point acknowledge IB? Or do they mainly focus on AP classes?
USMA does not take AP credits and I am sure this is the same case for IB credits. I believe that AP and IB classes are viewed on a similar tier. I know a few people who came from IB schools. Still, you will not receive any kind of "college credit" for taking those rigorous classes. Instead, you will have 3 options:

1. Test into advanced courses and further expand your knowledge (ever heard of Jedi Math?). Kinda sucks, but there's no way to jumpstart your college credit count here.
2. Try to test out of some core classes. This will free up some opportunities for you to take more classes specifically pertaining to your desired major later on in your academic career.
3. Do nothing and take the regular classes.

For example, maybe someone takes AP Statistics (I do not know the equivalent for IB) in high school. They will likely have an option to be placed in USMA's MA256 (Advanced Probability and Statistics) rather than MA206 (Probability and Statistics). Or, they can say that they just want to take MA206. Or, they can test out of the course and could potentially have an opportunity to take another major-related class later on down the line. Let me know if there are any other questions!

Thank you!!!

BEAST for 2021 will look more normal, for example there will be a BEAST 1 and II this summer.
