Hi! My daughter was just accepted to USAFA - I know NOTHING about the Academy, and really the military in general. I feel like I need a crash course in all things service related! My daughter has wanted to attend a SA for the last 5 years and I can't believe we are finally here and she is in. It's been an uphill battle... Looking forward to learning ALL about life at USAFA!

Welcome and congratulations! Spend some time reading through years of posts, you will find amazing information and slowly learn about the Academy. It is a very beautiful campus, and a special place in the heart of the USA. Congratulations to your family and your daughter on becoming a Falcon!

Welcome and congratulations to your DD (daughter) on her appointment to USAFA and to you for raising a young woman who wishes to serve our country!

If you have not done so, you should begin by reading everything you can on the USAFA website as primary sources are the most reliable.

Also helpful is our acronym list at the top of the page. This will help you decipher the many terms used here.

Again, congratulations to you both!

Please find the Edit button in the next hour and remove your name from your post, possibly your place of residence. Unlike FB and other personal social media, this is an anonymous open Internet forum. There will not be that many incoming cadets from your area, and it will make your DD (dear daughter) quickly identifiable. With anonymity, you can ask all kinds of questions.

There was recently another thread here in the USAFA forum with another new-to-military parent. Browse to find it. All kinds of helpful info.

And welcome!

You can join the USAFA Parents Resouce page on Facebook, and congratulations to your daughter!
@dah19

Would you be willing to edit your post to remove the quote of OP’s post with her name and area of residence? I have just suggested she edit her post, but it won’t be effective if it still shows up in yours. Thank you for considering.

Congrats! Search google and you will find a local USAFA parent's club. In addition to this forum, they will be a wealth of knowledge as you embark on a very cool journey.

Here’s the link:

If there is not one close to you, you could get in touch with the nearest and ask to be put on their email list, invited to their FB page, etc. Many SA Parents Club have some kind of welcome social event in the month before the new cadets report.

Was a valuable resource for me. Congrats & welcome! It's going to be a wild ride!

Congrats to your DD! It's great that you're interested in learning more, as family support is extremely helpful. In addition to the great posts above, I'd also A) google around and read up on USAFA and B) find another parent who's had 1+ cadets attend USAFA and create a new long-standing friend and mentor relationship. And again - keep the above posts handy! Good luck!

Congratulations! and again! My daughter is awaiting USAFA decision. I believe serving the nation through the Service Academies and then through the services is the best start in life!!! The opportunities are amazing, so glad to hear she wants to explore it. As others have stated: Family Support is a must. Keep encouraging her and she will "reach the stars"....CONGRATS!
