Does the USNA have an I day dry run similar to USMA? If so, do they take volunteers?

Not that I'm aware of . . . at least not one that include "outside" volunteers. Allowing people to "practice" kind of defeats the purpose of I-Day, doesn't it?:roll eyes:

I agree usna1985! You don't want to do a dry run! You look back on it at the end of next year and down the road, you will want that full experience in the end. From what I can remember as a detailer, we ran the Napsters and most of the direct prior entries through the day before and that sort of served as a dry run. Not sure if they still report a day early, but that really worked out the system and would find any holes in the planning.

Practicing. How silly of me. Don't know where that thought came from.
I can't imagine what value West Point sees in preparing the upper class for the whole reception day production and having the chance to fine tune any snafu.

I think everyone was considering a dry run from the point of view of a Plebe, which would be silly. Probably could be good for upperclass, but I assume they do practice plenty.

Besides, I was taught to avoid repeating most of the things that Army does. Heheheh.

Most plebe summer cadre are coming from Leatherneck at TBS. They will be more than motiviated/ready to greet the Plebers on I-Day.

There is a thread discussing the R-day rehearsal at WP now on their forum. There is also a link to the the WP website where you can register and/or read more about it. If you are member of the incoming class, you are NOT permitted to participate. It is mostly for the cadets to practice what they will be doing and to some extent gives friends/siblings/parents a flavor of what it is like.

USNA does not have anything similar.

Coming from TBS at "leatherhead" should be quite a motivator for Cadre.:shake:

Since the OP asked whether they took volunteers for the dry run, I assumed he/she was not an upperclass, who would know the answer to this question. USNA doesn't need outsiders to play the role of upperclass, so I assumed the OP was asking about the opportunity to play the role of a plebe.

There may in fact be some sort of run-through (don't know) but I'm quite sure they aren't looking for outside volunteers to play the role of plebes.

I can't speak to what USMA does or doesn't do as I have no knowledge of their program.

I think NavyHoops may have hit on the answer. To my limited knowledge USNA still does induct the NAPSTERS the day before I-Day which could serve to refine the system and give the detailers a taste of how I-Day probably will run. But then, USNA has been inducting plebes for a few years, so most of the process should be fairly well refined, and as Jadler noted, TBS should have the detailers on the step and ready for the plebes.

Napsters and Priors do process in on I-Day minus 1....My new butterbar Ensign was a detailer last Plebe Summer ( yes, after attending Leatherneck) and is headed back to USNA next week for TAD and will participate again in this upcoming I-day....he mentioned that he thought he would be assigned to issuing "Blue Rims" (T-shirts)to incoming plebes....he had a smile/smirk when discussing this as he remembered getting his issued B-Rs on his I-day all 2 sizes to small.....during morning PT the detailers would tell/yell at him to "tuck in your shirt Plebe !" He would but it would come right back out again in the next revolution....he's considering carrying on that" down-sized Blue Rim" tradition with this new Plebe class:shake:

They still issued me Blue Rims that were way too small this past year. It happens to everyone and we all laugh st how short they are. They tend to shrink more due to USNA laundry so we all seem to have belly shirts..... Since 15 had the LAST real plebe summer with BCGs, the academy decided to issue moisture wicking BR that don't shirk and fit more loosely than old ones, so they well not have the tiny BR experience...

I always hated that about laundry. It's like they assume you both shrink and gain weight as they stretch your clothes out in weird directions. On the bright side maybe the plebes will smell less terrible in the new shirts? Or, more probably, they'll still smell bad.

With regards to detailers coming to plebe summer from Leatherneck: waking up for PEP is sleeping in compared to summer fun in Quantico, so they'll definitely be well-rested.

Yes, my Ensign went from Leatherneck to 1st set detailer last year, too. The detailers spend about a week in preparation prior to I-day, including many, many briefings, plus spending I-day-1 checking in priors/NAPSters.

No worries about USNA detailers being ready for the new Plebes :shake:
