Hi

My mother (DS grandmother) has a hard time walking - do you know if they will let me drive onto the academy ground and drop her off somewhere close to the Swearing In Ceremony?

She really wants to come, but I know she will never be able to walk from the hotel.

check with the academy directly on what you need to do to make this happen. There are accomodations for handicapped people ... I am sure it requires pre-planning ...

Consider renting a wheelchair. We did this for my father-in-law for graduation at Texas A&M last year and he was able to see the whole campus. It will be HOT and HUMID. And there is walking even if you dropped her off somewhere on the yard. With a wheelchair, you can get her to a/c if neccessary, to the restroom, etc with ease once you are on the yard.

The Permit To Report should have an access pass for Drive On. You can drop anyone off on the Yard and then go to the Stadium parking area and take the shuttle back. Remember, swearing in is around 18:00 and there are bleachers set up for viewing. Seats fill up early. It is in the sun and can get hot. If she has a wheelchair they may have preferred access and seating. If she goes with you for report time she can always go back to the Hotel for the rest of the day and then come back for the swearing in. There is always Drydock resteraunt in Dahlgren where it is air conditioned and she can watch the closed circuit TV of the procedures until the swearing in.
