Hello,

I was wondering if not attending a CAP encampment makes a huge deal to USAFA.

I just couldnt attend and it would have been my first one if i did go. I am a non commissioned officer and definetely have leadership within my squadron and team. I did attend Boys’ State though.

I have just been trying to get it off my chest, i know this isnt the admissions committee but I just want to know from people like you guys if it makes a big deal.

Stats (if you are wondering):
African American male in a less competitive district in NY (rising senior)
-1440 SAT score
-Boys’ State Attendee
-Student Organization Senior Officer
-Manager in Chief, of a nonprofit club (started in beginning of HS, appointed Chief after junior year)
-Cadet NCO, Civil Air Patrol, Cadet Advisory Council Unit Representative
-National Honor Society Member
-Newspaper Editor 11th grade
-Active Volunteer within Community since beginning of HS
-Junior and Senior Year Varsity Track and Field, 1 yr Vars Wrestling (hated so i only did soph year), 4X Tae Kwon Do (almost black belt)
-Church Mens Summer Basketball League 2018
-Strong and able to excel on CFA
-Upward trend in grades

Encampment is a big deal and required for some promotions/opportunities within CAP, but beyond CAP, my guess is no one, including admissions, is going to care whether or not you went

Agree with USAFA 10s. IMO Boy's State matters more. Good SAT score. Editor/Club/School officer good. Need varsity letters for your track. Team Captain is best. Get the Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, then you can send in your certificate for credit like a Varsity Letter

No varsity letters given in my school. The door for team captain closed - I have only junior senior year of track. Black belt is almost in my hands and im looking to use that, do you think USAFA can give me Varsity letter credit if i send it the proof, since my school varsity league doesent hand them out?

Perhaps . . . ask your admissions POC . . . also let them know your school policy on Varsity Letter to see if there is a way for that to be taken into account in your file. I know USMA will give credit for Black Belt if you have a signed certificate from your instructor. I am assuming USAFA may do the same.

USMA did ...

DS earned his in middle school then focused on Football and Track

We had to scan in the signed certificate and upload it to the portal to be reviewed. Then he was given credit for it.
