YEAH!
I finally got a letter from DS. Yes, it was a form letter I sent him to fill in the blanks and he did. Also gave him extra room for comments and he did. I cried after I got it cause he actually sent it back. In it he said he kept a journal, which I knew he did, and he mailed it to me so I could read it before Thanksgiving. Gotta love that boy.
Now, I will have his daily thoughts. I am so blessed.
On top of that, he was able to get on the computer today and talk to his sister. I am glad he did. I didn't get to talk to him cause my husband and I were traveling back so this was a special time just for the two of them. If you knew how close they were growing up, you would understand. I am glad they both got time just for each other.
YEAH!

Things he said: best time of the day: Breakfast and endless supply of peanut butter with apples or bananas.
Worst thing: cleaning every 5 minutes.
The day he answered his letter, he stated that he didn't write in his journal cause he had 21 letters to read. I guess he didn't get them everyday. He is also thinking of joining the rifle club and possibly the sailing club or Martial arts. He also thanked me for making the letter simple as simple is best.

I can totally relate, especially the sibling story! He is blessed to have such great friends and you as a mom. Now go out w/ your girlfriends and have some beers or a pitcher or two of Margaritas. You deserve it.:beer1::popcorn1::shake:

So happy for you Shutterbug! Doesn't it just make your day?! You're so fortunate that he's keeping a journal & sharing it with you. Keep smiling...they've made it through the first hurdle!

That is wonderful! There is nothing like a letter home!

Wow, great news Shutterbug... I too have gotten several letters (3)- and mam-o-man was I suprised. 1. was a form letter I sent with him. 2. was the form letter with an additional piece of paper with what his day is like. and finally 3. was a long two page letter (front and back) it made me feel at ease. He also sent a separate letter addressed to us to be given to his wrestling coaches family- they were touched that he wrote to them.

Phone calls- first one was great and made me feel good, then comes yesterday and let me say the roller coaster has begun..... I think being sick is not helping- he has a cold and it is just lingering. And then today to (I was at work which is unusual for now (teacher- summers off)) he had a conservations with his sister ,they too are very close despite the 4 years between them- think that was good for both of them... now I'm jealous of my daughter.

Thanks to everyone posting what is happening with their DD/ DS it makes me feel like I am not alone with my crazy thoughts..... this is almost like therapy! Got to connect names and faces.... a secret hand shake or something?????

Thanks for all the cheers! The pitcher of beer or margaritas sound good but I have been so busy raising my kids that I don't have girl friends so . . . cheers to me and a bottle Mike's Hard Lemonaide is in my hands.
Anyone want to join me? Just raise your glass or bottle and clink it to all of us for getting through Indoc. The ride is just beginning.

Parent Organizations

Investigate your State Parent Organization. This group has helped me sooo much during these last 4 years.

Our group even established a 'mentoring' of the Plebe parents as they came in. We were available to answer questions, called to check in and gave a very personal connection to the new comers. I still maintain these friendships when we see each other at meetings and Parents Weekends.

Our State group is also organizing an informal alumni division within the Parents group. We want to support USMMA and its mission even when our children have graduated....and not loose contact with each other. :thumb:

I agree. I read this forum everyday - just trying to figure this whole thing out & maybe find a glimpse of my DS with posted pictures. You guys going through the same ordeals with me make me feel better. (Misery loves company thing:frown: . ha ha)

I got 2 letters - full front & back:thumb:. I treasure those words. My DS doesnt sound miserable - having a good time learning new things. So I dont feel as anxious anymore I did spill some tears today - as next week my DS will be celebratinghis 18th Bday - away from home. But reading all the other things that I need to worry about...has my head spinning! (Hard calc & physic classes - No A/C in a certai dorm - did my son get that one??? How wil he get mail....O my!)

Pass me a MIKE!:beer1:

I ditto the calling the Parent Association people from your state. and keeping on the forum and asking questions. Now I must go rehydrate. It's darn hot and humid here in WI. cheers!:beer1::beer1::jump1:
