I'm on a Navy base, my internet is iffy. I have 3 congressional interviews coming up via Skype. I can purchase internet here, but am still unsure of the quality. Also, in the barracks there is always a good possibility of being interrupted, which I think would be devastating for my interview. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do? Thanks

Do you have personal hotspot on your phone? I've used that for important videoconferences when internet was spotty, and it worked great. Of course it ate up data, but well worth it. Maybe do a trial run with a friend? Honestly, I don't think it would be devastating if you got interrupted. Of course what you can to avoid them, but your congressional committee panel members will understand an interruption if you explain your circumstances at the onset.

I'll look into hotspot on the phone. Good idea about explaining to the committee at the onset. I was thinking if I was the middle of a question, and they didn't understand, and I would be panicking about what the committee would think. But explaining at the onset paves the way just in case, then everyone is on the same page. Thanks! Still looking for other ideas on this, if anyone has any. Would prefer computer to phone, of course

Yep, turn your phone into a WiFi hotspot. Do a few dry runs with another person via Skype. Simulate your conditions. Do you have access to a Library? One of the research rooms would make a good place. Hang an, "Interview In Progress" sign on the door. See if you have a Non-Com that can help you out a little. Explain what you need. You might be surprised at the help you get. The Library itself might have Broadband you can use if you ask and explain your situation.

Best of Luck!

Kind of kidding, kind of not, what about a private bathroom? Or dressing room?

Base library, if they have one, check in advance on their WiFi and if there is a private area, small meeting room, etc., you can use.

Hoping by now you have done much of the legwork about prep school policies, age limits, ability to apply from A school, and you’ve gotten the chain of command fully briefed and on your side for every SA for which you are applying, perhaps a Chief or career counselor could arrange for you to use an office with a door, small meeting room, an unscheduled classroom?

Beat me to it Capt MJ. I would think someone in your chain-of-command could help you find an office, classroom, etc. If all else fails, appeal to the Chaplain - I am sure they have some quiet area available.

I am definitely going to talk to the career counselor about it. As for COC, let's just say some are better than others? I didn't really want to ask a chief because I am looking at going with another military branch, felt like there might be some hostility there because I would be viewed as jumping ship.

Also going to try to talk to the chaplain if I have time. The first one is coming up very soon.

The internet isn't working at the library, unfortunately
