If anybody here knows or is a cadet currently attending Texas A and M, I have a lot of questions that can't be found online. If anyone could provide a phone number, email, or even Instagram of a cadet willing to answer some questions, that would be awesome.

My classmate is going next year for ROTC, does that help?

If you are a parent with questions, I am too, as my son is likely going to A&M Corps and Marine ROTC. I will keep up with this post as I will take whatever info is out there! I know my son will get it all figured out, but as a parent, I feel lost!

Same here. My DS is registered for NSC (new student conference) @ TAMU and is registered for Corps housing. There’ll be a NSI (New Student Indoctrination) at Great Lakes Illinois done at Navy Boot camp location for all NROTC and MO midshipmen. Many questions regarding tuition amounts and reimbursement etc. Do all branches have the same time table and procedure regarding tuition?

NSI... that's the first I have heard of this? So new incoming Freshman Marine ROTC are required to attend this? If so... any idea of dates?

@sallye NSI will be going into it's second year as a formal program for all midshipmen. Last year, although there were some college programmers there, was the first year that scholarship midshipmen were required to attend. This year all midshipmen, including those at SMCs are required to attend. In fact, attendance is now a requirement for commissioning so folks who didn't attend last year will still be required to attend. I don't believe the dates are worked out yet, or at least they're not public knowledge. I'm sure the Navy picks up, ir perhaps reimburses, travel expenses.

Just adding that travel to/from home to NSI was covered and travel arrangements were facilitated by the NROTC unit at each school. It's summer, so just warning that a few folks from the NSI 2019 sessions I and II got burned in asking the Navy to cover travel from vacation directly to NSI, or from NSI directly to vacation or school (not home). In some cases it just made sense to go right to the vacation or school. But those expenses were not covered under this umbrella.

I think some schools/ students additionally get travel covered on their first trip to school, separately - for example mine did but I'm not sure if that is school specific. Just sharing so 2020 NSI participants can plan accordingly. Congrats and good luck to all future NSI participants. I think it's a great program and could not believe the growth I saw in my DS before/ after.

So, if our DS has a NROTC scholarship, and appointment to USNA, does he request 3rd NSI from his NROTC command to make sure he makes it through the doors on I Day? He has informed his command and school of his appointment.

He can request. Eventually they tell him which session to attend. It may or may not be his requested session. Same thing happens with summer training. I've no doubt they will try to accommodate the request if at all possible.

EDIT: We are not that far from I-Day. Bubble-wrap DS.

DS got an email from NSTC yesterday informing him he's been 'tentatively' assigned to Session 2 & that if he had any scheduling issues with that date to let his prospective unit know. The unit will coordinate with CMGO. DS has had communication with his unit HRA; that person would probably be the best person to contact, and I'd guess the 3rd session would be his best bet?

Thank you @kinnem and @Holden100 . That was what I needed. Yes, 3rd would be ideal. Our DS is being careful and I want to wrap him in bubble wrap. He has limited his Friday night sparring matches (he is only one who can spar the competition 24 year old AD) with his coache's support. Don't want a knee injury prior to I Day. Taekwondo can be rough. I will convey this to him and have him reach out to his unit.

No joke - saw a kid break his arm on the wrestling mat last night. It was horrible!

May I have the contact info too? I am also a future Aggie, as well as an NROTC hopeful
