I have the Tequila packed for Sponsor Family (weening them off Bourbon) and I am headed out of Sea Tac bound for BWI and Navy vs Air Force on Saturday.

Why should you care?-------- My last visit to Memorial Stadium was Navy vs Huston 2016. First win over a top 10 team in 27 yrs, (if memory serves), and an extra day of liberty for all Mids, (4 day weekend). Obviously, I am good luck for NAVY!----------(based on a 1 game sampling, and I did bring a Seattle rain with me that day).

BTW, as long as I am posting I have a question that I think ought to be relevant to would-be Mids. The selection process I observed for my DD had two "Gates" that involved face to face meetings. The first was a nomination board making recommendation to Congress Persons for nomination to the Academy. The second was a single meeting with a B&G officer. Can anyone tell me if recommendations and notes regarding either of these interviews find their way into the selection committe for the Academy?

Not for Congressional Nominations, separate process. Yes, for the BGO interview. They do a write up and submit it to the admissions.

As DD's BGO said, I can't get her in but I can keep her out.

Wish that were true (on the "keep her out" part). I would say that, if a BGO really, really thinks a candidate shouldn't be at USNA AND can document why, the BGO MAY have a chance of keeping the person out. But it's not as easy as it sounds. We don't have that much influence.

If the candidate's teachers give glowing recs and the rest of the package is solid, the BGO better have a LOT of objective evidence to support his/her view that the candidate shouldn't be appointed. Many years ago I had a candidate repeatedly lie to me (and could prove it). On paper the candidate looked terrific. It took a lot of work on my part to make sure that person wasn't admitted. I was successful, but it wasn't easy.

Well now that Robinette & Steelhammer are not on the team, you guys have a shot.:popcorn1:

Go Navy Beat Air Force ---- and don't wean the Sponsor family off the Bourbon...that's good stuff

Agree with USNA1985 -- I've never been able to get anyone in Admissions to specify how much weight the BGO interview has , but really don't think we serve as a "gate". My view is that the BGO interview is most important at the extremes --very good or very bad. We have the ability to shine the light on the very good, and raise concerns for the very bad. I also suspect that in most cases, the candidates application and record probably reflect the interview (Remember, BGO does not see your application, personal statement or teacher evaluations). I have seen a number of great candidates appointed, and have only "Not Recommended" one in almost 15 years... without going into details, it was patently obvious that he would never made it through Iday..and I expect that the rest of his application reflected that.

I remember one game where every time I went to the snack bar for the wife and kids Navy scored a touchdown. People in the stands wanted to give me money to go back. Big screen at the snack bar so I saw every one and was at least a little warm. Go Navy.
