I was offered a letter of encouragement and a visit to the USMMA.

I think this is a good sign.

Did anyone else receive this or can anyone tell me what this means as far as admissions go.

Do you mean a visit to USMA (West Point) (not Merchant Marine Academy)?

An LOE is a good sign, it means you are competitive. But nothing is guaranteed. Make the visit if you can; do what you can within your control to get the highest grades & ACT/SAT scores; apply to all nomination sources; and work on your Plans B, C, D. Good luck!

BTW, my DS received an LOE, and as you can see by my signature, he is a Plebe at USMA now, from the great state of Kansas. :thumb:
