hey

just as a preliminary, i'm taking the International Baccalaureate, and am in the running for 40+ points (out of 45)...
for my Higher Levels I'm taking Maths, English A1 and History (European - never had and probably won't get official exposure to American).
for my Standards (which are loosely compared to APs) I have Chemistry with the Human Biochemistry and Environmental Options, German A2 (which up until now - so 14months - I've taken as a 4th HL course instead of a 3rd SL...i dropped today cuz my teacher and i mutually despise each other, plus why stress myself extra? IBs already challenging enough for anybody) and Spanish B (foreign language) which I took as a 1yr course...i got a 7

how does that sound scholastically??

then for sports and extra-curriculars, i've done loooads - dancing, ice skating, tennis, volleyball, skiing, sailing, ... list goes on :) haven't done that much traditional community type service stuff though like cleaning up streets, though i have tutored a bit...

how does that look?

thanks :)

I am almost certain that you are scholastically qualified. I am shooting for ~35 points this May, and it really impressed my BGO.

If you have leadership roles in your activities, and have good CFA scores, you just might get a LOA. At least that was my story.

See you in June?

Really?
*jealous*!!!

I'm shooting for a 43 (at LEAST 40, I'm sorry, otherwise all this stress is a waste of 2 years! :shake:) and the Regional Director said that I'd probably get an offer for NAPS.... :frown:
I guess my SATs weren't convincing  - actually, they were more like a FAIL compared to my PSATs (went from 97% to 87% ... oops!)

I think that your predicted IB score alone is a much better indicator of your academic success than SAT and GPA combined. Alas, most admissions officers I spoke with can't even distinguish a difference between AP and IB; not to mention the extended essays, CAS, or even the internal assessments (which are so in-depth, AP doesn't even come close).

If all goes well and you pass your medical and physical exams, I don't see why you would be defered to NAPS. Good luck in your application!

IAs: I can relate, currently stressing about History HL, tis due Monday
Not to mention World Lit 1 for A1 and the Written Tasks for A2 my lord... and TOK presentation in 8.5hours! What fun, typical IB

I hope Admissions and my MOC see that the same way as you!! Do they?

So does that work FOR us or AGAINST us - what do you think??

Thanks for the encouragement!!!!

btw - when they asked for grades, what did you send them?? Real, Targets or Predicteds?
All?

And did you explain everything about the IB to them (to make sure they know how challenging it is )?

Btw, I compared SL to AP, which is how it's viewed over here. Same over there with you?

Admissions knows all about the IB program, you are not the 1st IB candidate to apply, many schools here in the USA offer it.

Hah! Our chubby Hist. teacher made us do it last year. so did english and tok teachers. phew, thank goodness i don't have to worry about all these things now! my tok presentation is next week, so hopefully i won't stress it too much, he-he.

I didn't bother explaining IB to anyone, I tried and I failed miserably. I know USNA gives same consideration for AP as it does IB, same goes for MOC and everything else. That definitely works againsts us, because IB is an entire program, while AP is just a level of a course.

I don't think that I sent any IB scores, but they probably wouldn't have impacted my application anyway.

Sorry if i made bunch of errors, was typing fast so i could have time to scribble lab report before midnight. lol. take care!

aznarkarus

So if you didn't send any IB scores, what did you send?!

I just indicated that I take IB classes. I know that if you do good on IB/AP exams, it will be considered and validated sometime before fall semester starts.

So you didn't send in any grades at all???? *disbelief*
you must of told them something like 'in history I have a 7 (A)' or something?!

Well I did send them my transcipt, of course. Most of my tests are scheduled for this May, so I didn't really have anything to present them other than a 7 in language B. I might've mentioned it in the 'Remarks' section of my application, I can't remember. Or maybe they even had a seperate section for AP/IB grades; again, can't remember lol (I know NROTC application has such a section).

I haven't found that yet but I'll go see.
I guess I'll just put my predicteds into the remakrs section :thumb:

I think it is safe to say you'll do alright. I'm also doing the IB, and captaining varsity cross country and soccer.

I have two nominations so far, and am hoping for a third from my Congressman (I have both Senator's).

IB HL: History 7, Spanish A1 7, Physics 6
IB SL: Math 5, English A1 6, Theater 6
(Those are predicted grades, and I'm praying Math was a fluke! lol)
SAT: CR 800, M 750

I definitely think that the IB is an advantage when you are doing interviews, because you can talk about the program and your extended essay, which tend to at least SOUND impressive! :D

Good luck!

My Predicteds (from what I've gleaned, theoretically we aren't supposed to know )

HL:
History.Europe - 6
English A1 - 6/7
Maths.Sets - 6

SL:
Chemistry (Options = human biochemistry & environmental chem)- 5 :)eek:!!)
German A2 - 5 to 7 range --> new teacher this year and I dropped it as my 4th HL to SL 3 weeks ago so Predicted from last year was 5/6 for HL..so maybe a 6/7 now for SL?

And Spanish B 1yr course = 7
And a high A on the TOK Presentation apparently

Buuut SAT: 650 CR, 560 Maths... I flunked :bleh2:
When I took them I wasn't thinking of applying to the States so what I got didn't matter -- I was just taking them for 'the experience'... redoes in Jan!!

Oh and EE in Maths!
(Exploring dimension with the help of fractals, non-linear dynamic systems and chaos theory... and something else )
Yours?

Personally, am aiming for a 43 (so I'll probably end up with a 42...). But either way, I seriously expect above a 40... I hope!!!!!! I just need to get around to some serious studying....

Yeah my ToK right now is an A, as was the rough draft for my extended essay.

"Given the 20th century history of Spain, is a centrist position achievable in modern Spanish politics?"

It was great because I got to interview Spain's former Vice-President, former Minister of Defense, and a bunch of Civil War vets.

Adivino que estas en España?! Comencé el cole allí - en Madrid :shake:
A history EE then? Sounds interesting! When is it due?
Dec 11th for me...
Yep, tok essay's an A too, but I don't like mine  I did #7 - the ethics one

No... estudie en Barcelona por tres anos. Joder! No tengo un ene. O sea anos parece un poco.. interesante?

Now I'm in Atlanta, GA, with a complete american keyboard, and therefore no tildes etc.. makes essays in Spanish a puta!

Mine was due last week, and I can't even REMEMBER my PTE. I think it was option 4?

hahahaha!! Lamento muchíííísimo tu falta de keys con tildes y todo :frown::wink:
Sisi 'anos' parece interesante... that's a good word :yllol:

re Spanish essays.. I just hand wrote them

I gave in my first World Lit (HL) today and even as I was rereading it I just couldn't remember my thesis... there's pros and cons in having to write essays 8 months before they're due

I have no idea what 4 was. I know that I'm doing 7, it's on ethics/moral theory, it has a quote from somebody named Henry (I'm thinking?) that mentions comparing a pile of bricks to a house. So da la
What did you write about?

hey and Good Luck to you too!!! Maybe we'll see each other on I-day, start talking Spanish :thumb:

To understand something you need to rely on your own experience and
culture. Does this mean it is impossible to have objective knowledge?

Thats the one I did. I started off doing the bricks, but phailed so I decided to do the other one. Good choice, IMO.

Yeah I wish I had the right keys... :(

Well no, because I have applied for the Class of 2013. Why do you not graduate until June? Our exams finish in May... and they should everwhere
