I know that Crohn's and Ulcerative colitis are non-waiverable... but how about microscopic colitis? It's much more rare but does not require autoimmune therapy and does not carry with it the same increased risk for colon cancer. However, it DOES fall under the umbrella of inflammatory bowel disease. It can be treated, if needed, with OTC products.

This post is, hypothetically, for someone wanting to direct commission as a health care provider and not via a service academy.

The applicant should read @MullenLE FAST Sticky at the top of the forum and follow the steps there. Mr. Mullen is the Deputy Director, DoDMERB, and is willing to talk specifics privately. He is an official source.

Does this process also apply to people who have not officially attempted to commission, just for informational purposes only? I see it is asking for names, last four of SSN.

He is the only DoDMERB voice here, with 29 years in the role. He is usually very responsive to active as well as those not yet officially in the system. In your case, last 4 wouldn’t be critical.

Give it some time, and I bet he pops up here.

Excellent. Thanks for your quick response, sir!

Many here are not sirs. 😉

All candidates in pre-comm programs are evaluated against the officer accession standard. Waiver policies may differ for various communities. Some DQs are never waivered, some are frequently waived, some have limits on waivers given.

/or ma'am :)

Really all I'm hoping for is not a hard stop in this circumstance. I know there are a lot of factors, provided by Mr. Mullen via private communication. A denied medical waiver is a PDQ for life so a "maybe" is all I'm really hoping for at this point.
