I'm a student that has applied to USNA and USAFA. I got accepted to both summer seminars, my blue and gold officer told me that I am an extremely competitive applicant, and I got two nominations to USNA and one to USAFA, but I haven't heard anything back yet. Should I just assume that I haven't heard back yet that I got rejected? Or are the chances extremely slim now? (Note: out of everyone I met at summer STEM two years ago and both summer seminars that applied, only 1 has actually gotten in.) I see spots filling up, but I've been told it's the recruited athletes. Does anyone have any extra information that might help? Thank you.

I am actually in the same exact boat was you with a very competitive application and 2 noms for USNA and 1 for USAFA.

With all due respect, in absence of a BFE or TWE, why should you assume anything one way or the other? As has been said many times now in similar threads, unless you have a TWE, you're in the running.

I completely agree with that for sure! Best to be positive! I'm just curious because I have two full rides on the table, but for one of them I must accept it by the end of March. It's a question if I should reject this full ride for a chance at an academy or take the full ride with zero chance at an academy. So if there's still a pretty good chance I'll get in then I will decline the other offer. Very stressful right now. Really just wish I had some kind of answer or indication. Thank you though!

Is this true? Thank you.

No one here is going to be able to tell you what your chances of an appointment are. You can only wait as long as possible before responding to the full and then decide which set of chances you are going to risk. Deep Breaths and patience.

I got accepted back in early February and i am not a recruited athlete, but I know there are still plenty of slots still left. I have heard of people getting appointed a week before I-Day. I for sure would not count yourself out yet. Keep you head up!

Have you heard of a lot of people getting in?

I completely understand that, I’m just more curious if anyone has an idea how many acceptances have been sent out so far

They are narrowing it down and it becomes more and more borderline the closer you get to i day. They are definitely thinking about you and just know if you don’t get in, hearing back about it this late means you were probably a really hard decision to make.

Here's what I'll say...

I'm a senior ALO...I've worked for/with USAFA/RRS (selections) for over 20 years. That being said...

I have no idea when the next appointment will be offered, how many have already been offered, how many have accepted, how many have turned down, etc... And with the possible exception of one member of this forum who "lurks" around from time to time (and truly DOES know the inner workings and is in the know) nobody else here can tell you any more than I can.

Waiting sux. It's no fun, it's mind-twisting, stomach twisting...agony.

But it is what it is.

As the saying goes: A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. If it were me, I'd accept the full-ride scholarship. I'd see this as setting Plan B in motion.

If USAFA then offered me an appointment, and it was in fact Plan A, I'd accept it while declining the full-ride scholarship. If done in a respectful and timely manner, that school should have zero trouble with your desire to pursue your top choice. And they'd have no problem offering that scholarship to someone else.

That's a win-win!

It’s my understanding that appointments this year are lagging by 20% YTD. Things will speed up soon. Our BGO said the latest offer that she’s seen is the day before I-day! All I can say is be patient. That’s one thing you must learn when you’re part of this environment.

I guess I will be Debby Downer today. Above posters are correct that no one knows the status of each individual application except your admission's rep, BUT the chances of an offer get lesser as time goes on. The class is filing up at this point as they work to finish this year's process. While offers can go all the way to I-Day/R-Day, these are usually the exception. I think you need to start focusing on your Plan B/C. If this full ride is what you want, you should accept and start moving that way. The worse thing that can happen is you have two options in a few weeks.

I have read of both happening. Most civilian schools require you to accept during May, pay a deposit, and maybe even attend orientation and select courses shorty thereafter. One of our son's is in the same boat and Plan B is moving, just in case. If you look over the threads of "self posting" for each academy, you will see quite a few "undecided" members. These are applicants who may have multiple nominations or appointments as well as accepted Plan B's to highly ranked schools. I have no idea of how many of these "undecided" members will eventually decline but they have until May 1st I believe to decide. So quite possibly after May 1st you could have some more appointments coming (maybe), but as said so often "Until you get a TWE, You are still in the running". Sit tight, work on Plan B or Plan C and don't give up. And if you REALLY want one of the academies, take a year of college or military prep school and re-apply.

I'm in the same boat, I completely understand how crushing it feels to see everyone else get appointed, but as everyone else has said, we haven't received TWE's yet so there's still hope.

You will most likely known one way or another by April 15th. In my family, my daughter (USAFA 2020) was notified of her Appt on April 8th. My son was an applicant to both USAFA and USNA last year. He received USNA TWE on March 22. He received USAFA TWE on April 12th. He was a very competitive applicant. His plan B was to accept a 4 yr AFROTC scholarship and reapply. This year he received his AFA Appt on March 7th and his USNA Appt on March 25. My educated guess is you will know by April 15.

Our state is pretty small and we have surmised the following (based on first & secondhand intel) within the past week for our 4 MOCs for the 3 DoD SAs (USAFA, USMA, USNA):
1) the first round of appointments have been issued for the MOC slates for our state
2) quite a few candidates have been given multiple appointments for SAs and have not turned any down yet and
3) some haven't been given an appointment for their #1, so they are holding on to their #2 unless they get their #1 and until May 1.
Unfortunately, they can't get together and trade them like trading cards! (tongue in cheek!!)
