If you dont receive an appointment to your SA of choice, nor receive a scholarship from the branch of your choice, but you still wanna participate in their ROTC programs at whatever college you did get into, is that simply a sign up when you get there thing or is there an application for that as well, does that application have to be done by a certain time?

I was looking at being a college programmer in the Air Force and was told by my JROTC instructor to go to the college of your choice and sign up for ROTC courses as an elective. You have to find oout what are the entry level courses for the branc of your choosing. To be safe, I would call the unit.

Yes, you may sign-up for ROTC at your school without a scholarship. You may be able to earn a 3 or 2 year scholarship once you are in the Battalion. If you're interested in participating, and meet the basic physical requirements to partake in the physical training, you should be in. There's no selection board for just joining ROTC.

Yes just seek out the ROTC unit your interested in and sign up for courses.
Get to know the command leadership, get involved and do well in both your GPA and PT. Unit Command can help you get a 3 yr ROTC Scholarship.
Good Luck

FYI...for ROTC (at least USAF) students NOT on scholarship when they start as freshman....if they continue in the program, and do WELL academically and especially in the AFROTC program...by the time they're finishing their 2nd year, they're almost ALL on scholarship.

MOST AFROTC scholarships are awarded to ROTC cadets; not to HS students.

My son had a four year type 2 out of high school, his bf from JHS joined him in ROTC for fun. This summer he received a 3 year scholarship, he is a history major.

At my son's high school, in Northern VA, 4 people received scholarships. Three were four year scholarships and one was a three year. They were all lacrosse players.

They do happen.

Found out today that I got a 4 year NROTC scholarship!! Now just have to hear back from the naval academy to decide if i need it!

Cycling1222,
Congratulations on the scholarship. ACCEPT IT! If you get an appointment to the academy and accept that then you automatically give up the scholarship. If you don't accept it, it won't be there waiting for you after the deadline. My son got his a couple weeks ago so he accepted, accepted a spot at Drexel and we are still just waiting from USNA. Never burn your bridges.

Thanks for the advice, what if I did not get into the school that i was assigned to yet? If I don't get into that school can it be transfered to a different school?

If I am correct, some schools offer a 4 year scholarship if you get your DODMERB done fast and can pass the APFT. Or a 3.5 year if you don't make it, or 3 or 2.

At least that is what the scholarship rep told me twice, she seemed sure of it.

So if I don't make the 4 year AROTC from federal money, I will try to get the 4 year one while im at the college.

Congratulations

Yes, it is possible, but you have to ask and there has to be room for you in the other school's unit.

Congratulations again. I loved my experience in Navy ROTC at the University of South Carolina. It served me well for a twenty-year active-duty career.

Yes the scholarship is transferable, it may just take a while. If you haven't gotten in to your first choice you can do a couple things. If second choice is an option call the unit there to see if it is full, if not apply to the NROTC for the transfer and wait. ORRRR, call you first choice school and tell them the situation and that you reeaally want to go there and you have the funds to pay via a NROTC scholarship. Get to someone up the admissions department chain.
