If not USNA what are your other plans?

Thanks GoArmyBeatNavy! I would say yes to NAPS too in a heartbeat, so that is my last hope for this year! I would love to attend there.

Good luck with your DoDMERB remedials! A lot of my squad mates from Summer Seminar are having trouble with DoDMERB; it's a nightmare. I really wish the best for you!!!! Keep us posted.

Remember, this isn't just another school on the application list. This is a life style, and life altering choice. Without a doubt, the Service Academies should be your first choice of post-secondary education. The purpose of these institutions is to produce officers for our country's armed forces, not just to graduate people with degrees.

Officership isn't purely scholarship

Working hard

Sam is there something posted that leads you to think this is about a scholarship or degree only? I see candidates doing all that they can to make it work out.

I am also graduating in 2012. My top choices as of now are:

1. USNA
2. USMA
3. USAFA
4. GA Tech (either NROTC, AROTC, or AFROTC depending on which scholarships I get in that order)
5. Norwich U (either NROTC, AROTC, or AFROTC depending on which scholarships I get in that order)

Safeties: UGA(either NROTC, AROTC, or AFROTC depending on which scholarships I get in that order) and North GA (both in state as well)

If I do AROTC for any of the last 4 options I shall probably do SMP Program and any such programs if available for the other service ROTCs as well.

@futurenavypilot

Thanks and I'll keep updating.
Did you try for a Vice Presidential nomination (Not sure but does he accept apps until ?Feb)? Also your avatar looks like a JROTC group. Is it a unit that can give you a nomination? (Honor unit with distinction)

Good luck to you!

Well, Aero, my thinking on this is that the ultimate goal is to pin those Ensign bars on. As long as you keep that in mind, your golden. No matter if you come from an Academy, ROTC, or OCS. My posting is just a reminder to candidates what the end goal is about. I'm hoping that everyone on this website wants to serve and not go for what they see as a free education- because it isn't. While I'm just a student right now, the day I pin on the bars is the day I begin truly serving.

It's good to keep things in perspective, right? :thumb:

@gonavybeatarmy2015

My avatar was from Summer Seminar. I'm not part of NROTC... kind of wish I was now!, but it just wouldn't have been possible in high school for me. I did apply for VP, but I realize it's a long shot. We'll see though! Very best of luck to you.

If not USNA what....

candidateelias15

I personally would wait to see if I was accepted at MIT. Even though your in at USNA, you put in so much work just to apply at MIT. By the schools you have applied to, you have what it takes to be there. My son applied to MIT and scored a 2000 on his SAT's. He sat for his interview and was told, he only needed 150 more points. He thought it was just about filling out an application. So he did not take the SAT's again. He was rejected. Please, think about this.
Good luck,

RGK

Why are the USAFA and USCGA near the bottom of your list? If they aren't on the top, don't even bother applying because you obviously don't want it as bad as the other applicants. Focus on what you want to do AFTER the Academy/college. Don't just see it as getting a free education.

Agreed. Once the SA's are not in sequential order at the top of your list, it would be redundant to continue applying to them.
For example, the moment I realized I would rather do NROTC than USMA/AFA, I didnt do their applications because I knew I was going to get a secured "backup" with NROTC.
Plus the CGA and AFA are extremely competitive; its like applying to Virginia Tech, and then as a backup, Harvard. Doesnt make strategic sense.
If you're just wondering which schools youd get into, then Id see continuing apps to CGA, but AFA still needs a nomination, and getting a nomination to AFA may jeopardize the chance of getting a nomination to USNA (some senators, like mine, nominate one candidate to one SA only).
Either way, you dont have to listen to me, I'm only a candidate myself :thumb:

Update

Update your plans if they change.

Here is another update:

First Choice USNA, waiting, have one nomination

Second Choice: NROTC scholarship awarded (assigned to NC State NROTC unit) but I may request change to Auburn or Embry-Riddle

Accepted to:
Auburn Aerospace Engineering
Academic Heritage Scholarship $59,600
Auburn Honors College
NC State (awarded NROTC scholarship assigned to their unit)
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Aerospace Engineering
Embry Riddle Academic Scholarship $20,000
Tuskegee University

So I am also not graduating until 2012 and would be a class of 2016 but here is what my plans are

Service Academies:
1. USNA
2. USAFA
3. USMA

Other colleges (not in any order of preference) :
1. U of Michigan- Ann Arbor (in state)
2. U of Michigan Tech (in state and already have higher than average test scores to get in)
3. U of Virginia
4. U of North Carolina- Chapel Hill
5. Rice University
6. Vanderbilt University- NROTC- yes its kind of a stretch but thats alright I can dream, lol

So basically I am thinking I would rather go to any of the service academies than the other colleges, but I am keeping my options open.

ski what are you studying?

You are wise to start early and get your physical this summer so that you will have plenty of time to work out any problems, etc.

alright I will definately do that. I am taking almost all advanced classes to prepare myself. I have wanted this sense 8th grade. I was invited to be a drag this past September and it was one of the best experiences of my life. It just confirmed my decision to want to go.

What kind of stuff should I do to get ready for the physical testing. When I went they said focus on running, push ups and sit ups

I was just listing them, not in preferential order. Well, USNA is 1 and USMA is 2, and those were the first that popped into my head. I was just listing them as I thought of them. My preferences are USNA, USMA, USCGA, USAFA then the rest of the civilian colleges. Sam, I would also appreciate that you refrain telling me how "bad" I want to get into an academy and inferring that I am applying to get a free education by reading a post on an online forum. Thank you.

I'm in the boat with GoNavyBeatArmy2015. I'm assuming you're a senior this year. Nerve wracking.

1. USNA
2. USAFA

if not a service Academy:

1. UC San Diego for ROTC
2. UC Merced
3. Sonoma State(hopefully for sports)
4. Sacramento State

Yay for Cali!

Meant DoDMERB Physical Ski

Sorry, I meant your DoDMERB physical. I would get it done this summer, that way if you have any issues, you have plenty of time to work it out. Getting in physical shape....just read the suggestions on other threads. Good Luck!
