If you don’t hear back by 4/21, you didn’t receive a direct appointment correct?

So if you get a TWE on/by the 21st are you completely out of the running for the rest of the admissions cycle? 'Cause I've heard of people who have received direct appointments after receiving a TWE. (Also have heard of people who get PS slots after a TWE). Obviously, plan *new* A is definitely being pursued first, but I'm not counting myself out until I-Day! {Just want to make sure I'm being realistic about possibilities} Maybe @flieger83 you have some more insight on this situation? Thanks!

FACT: 21 Apr is the day: For current candidates to the Class of 2024 we expect to have decisions out for direct entry into the Academy by the 21st of April. We will continue to work offers to the Preparatory School and Falcon Foundation into May. :wiggle:

So if you hear nothing after 4/21 you should be receiving a prep slot or the falcon scholarship?

Don't read too much into it. People have been offered appointments a week before I-day. Now, don't PLAN on that! If you have not heard back by next week, make sure "plan B" is good to go. That doesn't necessarily mean you are out of the running, it just means that it is likely you will not get in this year.

I wanted to wish good luck to all who are waiting to hear by tomorrow. It's been a long road for DD .. over 16 months since SS application! Backups in place, but Civil Air Patrol and the hope of USAFA were the reasons she decided to serve.

Not how it works. The date marks the close of this "round" of activity. There will be a few appointments offered right up until the start date of BCT as they seek to max out the class within their allowable numbers. Late appointments happen, but like @flieger83 said, if you are this far down the path and have not yet received an appointment, you need to be considering other options.

Long ago, just after the Earth's crust had cooled, I received 5 TWE's and ended up with a June appointment to USAFA. Certainly not the norm, but for those reading the tea leaves, just know that anything can happen and you are no longer in control of the situation. What will be, will be. As this "round" of admissions activity closes, the next target becomes the accept/decline date -- is that 1 May this year? After that, I would anticipate a round of activity. Then it will be sporadic (think virtually silent) until the start of BCT. Mark that day on your calendar. If you don't hear by then.... it isn't happening for the class of 2024 - that is the real Drop Dead Date. If it doesn't happen - morn the missed opportunity, watch Jocko's video, compose yourself, and then consider if you want to move onward to the class of 2025.

I'd imagine they will still offer direct appointments as people decline

****I'll modify what I said yesterday, having just received the ultimate clarity*****

21 Apr will be when those that are not selected will be notified
That doesn’t seem to bode well for those that have heard nothing yet. We’re pretty set on our plan A2 at this point, but a little mystified as to why he did not earn an appointment. I know the system is a big mystery, but he really could not have presented a stronger application. He has Type 1 AFROTC scholarship, and is thrilled but the non-select for Academy definitely stings.

If we do happen to get the TWE tomorrow, does that mean we are no longer considered for a ps or fs?

Remember, appointments are regional. He was competing against candidates in your district (and/or presidential or other nomination categories). I think all of our kids had great packages. In DD's case, we live in a very competitive district, so rejection not surprising.
We do know the candidate who got the appointment in our region well, and I think there were some outside factors happening there. But DS should have stacked up pretty well on a National level regardless. He’s a little bummed because he is the only person from his summer seminar group to not be appointed. But, he’s full steam ahead in plan A2, but the open-endedness is a little difficult.
