For the past year you have worked above and beyond the word "hard". You have hoped, prayed and wished for an appointment. Your emotions were up and down thru ought the months, weeks and days...One minute you thought "Yes, I will get in" and in a few seconds later your mind would say "No you are weak in this or that area.".
Sometimes words can not express how we feel and I believe that the TWE may have done that to you. Well it is not over...if you came to this point I'm sure you are a fighter and there are plenty of options to consider. I'm not a specialist about Air Force but sometimes I'm good coming up with options
Prep school, Falcon scholarship, AFROTC, Private colleges, Public colleges, Community colleges, reapply for 2016,... the sky is the limit! #1 You have your parents behind you and that is half of the battle. As I mentioned before you are a fighter and you will be awesome in any carrier if you choose to be. Life is made out of choices, it is up to you to make your own.
As you think about your choices right now I want to encourage you to serve one another, love one another, and life will smile back at you.
May God continue to bless you, because I know He already has. Remember you are privileged!
Love to all from Tennessee

Well howdy there again!

Maybe this thread can use an little angel perched on the shoulder? You go girl!!!!!

I absolutely have to agree. Last year when I received my TWE i was so devastated and thought why. But after few days I knew that I couldnt give up. After applying to NWP I received a falcon scholarship, something I never thought I had a chance for. Regardless of the situation, that TWE can be a blessing in disguise. I thought it was the Ed but prep school was the beginning it totally reassured me and got me pumped for USAFA. A year later as I look back at it (march 27 2010 is when I got my TWE last year) it couldn't have been better. So don't let this stop you let it strengthen you! Take that year, go to prep school, or wherever you decided, ad analyze again why you want to go and then reapply and when you get the BFE know that you have worked so hard for this, know you want it for all the right reasons, why you want it, and that you have a year behind you. If you go to prep school you get to go knowing that on I Day you going (for me) to know 60 other people there.
Good luck everyone and know that the TWE is not the end.

Hey T. Angel happy to see u being supportive...good to see u here! (you know what I mean.. not good but good :))
Let's keep the good comments coming :thumb:

Amen! "TWE is not the end."

You have a MUCH better chance next year and my DS will be right there as well if/when or maybe he'll get a TWE this week right along side of so many great kids.... There just isn't space for them all! Think how many of the kids that didn't make it this far!

I posted this in the Mailbox Stalkers thread, but I will repost it here.

Even if you don't get accepted, don't be too worried. I had a long path before I could get accepted. I graduated high school in 2008. When I applied directly out of high school, my application didn't really get anywhere. I was nowhere near competitive. Discouraged, I just enrolled in a normal local college. No ROTC or anything like that, the school didn't offer it. Anyway, it wasn't until my mom was laid off from her job later in 2008 that I started to really worry. I had done the Summer, and Fall semesters, and was already registered for Spring. We couldn't get accepted for school loans anymore, and since she was laid off in October, FAFSA just looks at the final year totals, so I didn't qualify for federal aid. What that meant for me was I was dropping out of school. That was when I started doing some research and found the Montgomery GI bill. So, I enlisted. After all the paperwork was signed, I saw that there was an opportunity for enlisted airmen to receive an appointment to the academy. From that point on, I did everything I could to be a model airman. I volunteered for things like Habitat for Humanity in Mississippi to help out with the aftermath of Katrina, Leadership position in our job training school, etc. It was my goal on the first day of basic to get an appointment into this school. Just because they tell you no once, doesn't mean you can't work to make yourself a better candidate. If you get denied, take it with pride. Talk to your ALO and ask what areas you can improve on. Take some classes at a community college to build some of your academic abilities. Now, I've been out of high school for three years, I am just now getting an appointment to the prep school. Don't fret over a TWE, just look at is as a new challenge to overcome!

It has been my goal since 2006, my cousin's graduation from the academy, to be in that exact spot one day. To be able to throw my cap up in the air as the Thunderbirds fly overhead. I never would have thought that it would come ten years later.

Jwalsh...awesome...u r a true fighter...way to go :)

I also got a TWE the first year I applied. I HIGHLY encourage reapplying if it's what you want to do. I almost didn't finish my application the second time, but I thank God everyday that I did finish. I am now ranked highly in my class and will get my ring in May! There is still plenty of time for success :)

Hello everyone! No getting rid of me! I posted our "TWE" farewell in the Stalkers Thread (I'm gonna miss those guys!) but I agree with all that has been said here and I am so glad to see jwalsh sharing his awesome story over here! We will be heading to Virginia Tech/AFROTC/Corp of Cadets and School of Engineering. DS rec'd an Corp scholarship and University Honors so he is certainly not without a plan THAT SAID.......it's tough not to achieve a goal for anyone, but especially for these kids who are probably used to meeting or exceeding every goal they have ever had. So I think that it is so positive that those of us former MBSC's are here on the TWE thread! We can stay in touch and keep each other company as the next phase begins..whether that is reapplying or not. I hear that VT ROTC programs pride themselves in having their SA applicants decide not to reapply b/c they love VT so much. We shall see about that! Christcorp...you have been very helpful and full of knowledge and I speak for all of us when I say thank you ...to you an Flieger and Pima! Great individuals willing to share their wisdom with a group who is finding their way. Thanks to you and to all of the Stalkers (I keep wanting to say Stalker Moms but we had more than a few stalker dads, too!)

I'll be away until Sunday night but will keep stalk while away. Everyone cheer for VCU for the Nat'l Championship! :) And hug your DD/DS extra hard ..... they are probably feeling a new emotion right now and hopefully it will give way to an even greater determination to acheive their next big thing.

As some of you start getting that TWE, allow this guy who got a TWE in his day (for a ROTC scholarship) remind everyone here that only about 25% of our officer corps are AFA grads. The ULIMATE goal is the butter bar, and about 18 months into their actual military careers, no one really gives a hoot how you got their amongst their peers (especially when the odds are most likely the guy (or gal) standing next to you in line to get on the bus to deploy also didn't go to that Engineering School in the Rockies).

And for those needing a little encouragement about now, and a reminder that this is only one set-back in what may otherwise be a great career (as long as you keep striving for it): THIS...

To all those applying for admission next year, I hope to see you among the ranks of the class of 2016! =D Either that, or to see you at the prep school!

Yeah, im sure we can keep spamming these threads for another year or so, just until the rest of us eventually get our BFE's :D

what are your plans for next year then?

Bullet thanks for reposting your story on this thread, I did not see it before!

I had to giggle when you mentioned F-111's my dad was the navigator for those aircraft! Yep I'm what you call a AFbrat (hate that term), my husband was a AF Officer (OTS), DS #1 at USAFA and striving toward thepilot slot.:thumb:
