I'm a Firstie from the Class of 2020. ('20, sir!) I will be graduating in May.

If you're a candidate looking to come here, ask away.

If you've already been accepted and plan on coming here, ask away.

If you're a grad wanting to know how the Yard is these days, ask away.

If you're the parents of a Plebe or soon-to-be Plebe, ask away.

If you're a Plebe, close the web browser go study Chem. If you can't remember, it's next Monday. The final is no joke. I got a D on it my Plebe Year. Don't be like me and torpedo your QPR this early.

Question - am I competitive with average/middle of the read test scores, GPA, and rank? (Senior - already applied)

GPA- weighted 4.1, unweighted 3.9
ACT: 30 - E:35 M:29 R:32 S:24
Rank: 29/164
I have taken all but two AP classes that my school offers and have an outstanding display of leadership and athletics with the most service hours (368 currently) in my grade. I don’t know if this will slightly offset my academics for my chances of getting accepted, or if I should expect/hope to get into a foundation/prep school.

On a different note, what kind of nom did you get in with? I have a JROTC nom and will hear back from my congressman this next week if I received his. I’m not sure how much it would hinder my odds if I didn’t get his and just had JROTC. Any advice?
Thank you

What warfare community will you be going to and was it your number one choice?

I got in with my Congressman's nomination.

Going with both Congressional and JROTC nomination slates certainly won't hurt your chances. I suggest you put in both.

Hi, thanks for sharing. Here's one for you...why did you choose USNA vs. NROTC?

USNA is a institution solely dedicated to producing officers for our Navy & Marine Corps. It serves no other purpose. Research is done here and there, but again, in support of USN/USMC requests. No other college in the nation has this mission.

Did your high school career prepare you well for USNA? Do you feel like you went into Plebe year with good study habits and time management, or did it take you a while to develop those skills?

Also, what would your recommendation be for validating credits before Plebe year? Is it a bad idea or good idea?

Did you needed a waiver?? If so, how long it took and who contacted u?

I did not need any waiver. From my understanding DoDMERB contacts you directly or lets you know. There are others on the forum who can answer this better than I do.

I had to attend college for two years before I got accepted. I'll be blunt with you. Nothing really prepares you for your journey at USNA. Plebe year hits you like nothing else. It's up to the individual Plebe to rise to the challenge or crumble and sink.

Part 2. Validate all the credits you can. Lightening your course load can pay dividends here. You can also get a Master's as a Firstie by attending a nearby college (usually UMD or Johns Hopkins) if you validate enough credits during Plebe Summer and Plebe Year.
