AF6872 may have forgotten to mention that one of the famed mansions - "The Elms" - was built by a Naval Academy grad.
My favorite restaurant in Newport is Pronto on Thames at Spring Wharf. Fabulous fusion cuisine.
Brick Alley Pub, I like as well, is also on Thames. Last time we ate there the ivy in the courtyard was flowering - significant because it can take decades for that cultivar to be mature enough to reproduce.
Son will be going through Indoc at the Naval War College in Newport. The lucky boy. Sadly we won't be visiting.
