Hello, I am an appointee to the USAFA class of 2014. I have not yet received my Polio vaccine, Hepatitis A vaccine, Twinrix Vaccine, or Tuberculosis test. Should I get these done immediately or can they administer them to me on I-Day?
Thanks

You're better off getting them before BCT. They will definitely give you any shots you need when you get there, but people react differently to different immunizations. Do you really want to risk feeling like total crap when you need to be at your best physically and mentally? Just my $0.0284838 (Inflation). Mike....

Get them done now. Then you don't have to worry about them on I-day. It will cost some money, but its worth it.

I just got my shots last week. Next day I felt pretty crappy. I agree with the others, just get them done now. One less thing to stress about come I-Day

I made several trips to the doctor to make sure i had every shot i needed, because i really hate them. Probably one of the worst parts of I-day for me was having blood drawn and finding out that for some reason I needed another shot... not fun . i was already distraught from having both my arms stuck when i went in to get the shot, and the lady asked "have you ever passed out from receiving a shot?" and i replied honestly and bluntly, "always." and then seeing her face and hearing her say "oh crap." kind of made me chuckle and made things a little better. moral of the story is, you don't want any unnecessary pain on that day or any of the following..

I am not a doctor (and do not play one on TV) but you will find that some shots--particularly Hep. A, I think--can only be given after a significant period of time after the others. So at this point, like our son, you may have to get at least one at I day. Also, I saw someplace where it was recommended to get H1N1 vaccine (even though udoubtedly the flu strain next year will be different next year) but we have not been able to find a provider with the vaccine. So I guess if he needs it, he gets it at I day. Good luck to all.

Though I do recommend getting it all done now, it is not critical. The TB test is critical, since you need to wait a week (or something like that) for the results to show up on your arm. But everything else can be administered during inprocessing. It's just that most people feel uncomfortable with needles and there's no shortage of other things to feel uncomfortable about during inprocessing/basic.

Anyone know how up to date the meningitis one has to be?

Also, TB is 48-72 hours
