Impact on jobs in the industry?

Seems like this is starting to turn into a p*ssing contest.

I hope young people who read this thread take away from it not to limit their options after graduation and give all aspects of sailing a try.

I agree with that statement wholeheartedly.. The point I was trying to make is don't go to work in a place just because the money and time off are 'fantastic'.. That can change quickly. Hopefully Kings Point is giving their cadets some exposure to that segment of the industry by putting them on drillships and OSV's. That way they can make a more informed decision whether it's for them or not BEFORE they get their license and start working..

Agreed. I took jobs because they were sailing jobs, not necessarily the highest paying. One has to be happy in what they are doing as a career, especially when it is a maritime career that requires much more time and commitment than most.

Wasn't it Confucius who said 'Choose a job you love, and you will never work a day in your life.'

It's all good in the end as long as you are happy. Money and happiness are great motivators. Sometimes money makes one happy, sometimes not.
