Bacon Thread Potatoes...really?!?!

@Capt MJ, I honestly don’t know whether to curse you or praise you. Probably both. In spades.

Glad to hear the Amish Market is open. DD asked whether we’d come out for a visit in early November, since she’s not coming home for Thanksgiving. I don’t need any extra incentive to fly out, but knowing the Amish Market is open only makes me more eager to do so.

We also have plans to be there in November. Look for us in the pretzel line at the Amish Market and in front of the dessert case at Double T.

Oh good we are back to bacon. The pie diversion in the other thread had me nervous. I know this might result in me being banned... but I must confess... I dislike pie immensely, all of them.
There must be a deep psychological issue there. We all have them. Is it the crust? Cooked fruit (that was a roadblock for me as a kid)?

What is your stand on a lovely cheddar and bacon pie with a buttery rich garlic crust? It’s got a quiche-like consistency.

Amish Market Annapolis status:

I went there in early September, first trip since February. I have been shopping primarily at Annapolis Commissary, Ft. Meade Commissary and Sam’s Club during their special shopping hours. The Market tends to get very crowded, which used to be fun, but not now. I’m the person with the grocery cart who looks down an aisle, sees too many people, and punts off to another section of the store to get another item on my list. Of course, Total Wine delivers into my trunk at the curb after ordering and paying through the app, so that is essential too. Sadly, I haven’t been back to Trader Joe’s in a while, usually a regular haunt. On a serious note, I really really don’t want to get this virus, given how unpredictably it hits people, much less bring it home to DH.

Since there is Wright’s bacon at both Commissaries and Sam’s, I have the essential food group covered.

It’s a crust thing I think. I think it’s also a texture thing. I actually do not like a lot of desserts. Cheesecake and pudding are terrible. Cake, cookies, brownies, ice cream are more my groove.

But I did have a bacon, egg and cheese (and a touch of hot sauce) breakfast sandwich this morning and it was delicious. Wright’s was the key!

Wrights is almost always the key with the bacon. Has anyone noticed its getting harder to find the higher meat to fat ratio when picking through a case of Wrights lately? Last time at Sam's i went through 2 cases before finding one that looked to have more red than white. I try to put the worst ones back on the bottom of the case so the next person doesn't have to dig as deep.

Making good luck pancakes for Navy football game today: spiced McIntosh apple and bacon pancakes, with, of course, a side of bacon. I wish we could be tailgating, with hot spiced fresh-press cider and other game day food.

If you were tailgating, would grilled scamorsa and thick porcini mushrooms, both drizzled with olive oil from an old Neapolitan jug, be a fit for your game day food? And since @THParent deems prosciutto permissible on the Bacon thread, would figs wrapped in prosciutto also work? I wish I could just sneak around the stadium to see what people are ginning up. I'd probably miss the game sampling everything and catching up with friends.

Ooh yes. My driveway is available right now.
I am fond of braising a brisket the night before, slicing it and returning it to pan juices to soak overnight in the reefer. Re-heat the next morning in big foil pans and wrap up in layers of heavy foil to transport. At the game, serve warm slices piled on crusty Italian rolls from Giolitti’s Deli, a platter of fun stuff to add on as desired, including the mandatory jar of “hots” for Philly native DH. Braising liquid is an Italian red, garlic, oregano, thyme, black pepper, onions.
There will definitely be bacon involved with appetizers. Mini corn muffins with bacon. A big bowl of giardiniera. A mad mix of world cuisine. Bonus points if someone brings lumpia.
I have been known to never make it into the Stadium.

I will never, ever take the delights of tailgating for granted again, once I can enjoy it.

I will say it is nice to see Big 10 football today. I can’t wait to see a packed stadium full of fans again one day. Oh and tailgating... and since it’s a bacon thread... tailgating with lots of bacon!

Met friends for drinks last night (socially distanced, of course 😉). We ordered dates wrapped in bacon and run under the broiler for a bit. Delicious. They came with a sauce. Still wondering why I’d want to taint the bacon with a sauce.

Going on my gift list, @MidCakePa ’s comment about bacon-wrapped items made me realize my repertoire needed refreshing.

Our first experience with bacon wrapped dates was at a restaurant outside of Little Rock, AR. Since then, we've learned that they can be stuffed with various cheeses. They make a fantastic addition to a charcuterie board.

Unless it was a bacon sauce. :)

Agreed. I’ve made them with goat cheese or blue cheese. I prefer the latter, which adds complexity. Such a simple yet eye-catching and mouth-watering appetizer.
