Important matters concerning the existence of Humanity - BACON

Wow!

Eight

I know. It was bringing bacon grease tears to my eyes, until I realized that the stove was too hot.

Ron Swanson rules!
He's awesome. I really love the Sling commercials.

And for some reason I'm reminded that the NC Bacon Festival is a week from tomorrow a mere 20 miles from my home. I'll be there, but I also hope the winds blow the scent to my home.

I put some crumbled bacon in a skillet this morning and dropped an egg on top. Cooked "over medium", because "over easy" is something people in movies order, and anyone who eats uncooked egg white is an affront to Society. Yeah, that's disgusting.

Back to my egg. Cooked to perfection (with hot, runny yolk) and mixed-in crispy crumbled bacon and fresh cracked pepper, all on top of a buttered slice of rye toast. Steaming cup of bold coffee, and a half of grapefruit. I heard angels singing, faintly.

My faith is restored! I was so sad when there were no more bacon posts for a few days. Maybe this spurs some new recipe contributions to this thread..... hopeful.

I did make my Italian Landlord’s Wife’s pasta last night, always a favorite with DH. The last of the garden basil (yes, chiffonade!), 1/2 pound cooked crumbled bacon, the last of my summer Roma tomatoes, a bit of heavy cream, a spoonful of the bacon fat, half a Vidalia onion sautéed in a bit of EVOO, 3 crushed cloves of garlic softened with the onion, oregano, a pound of farfalle, fresh ground pepper, Parmigiano ribbons. The winter/pantry shelf version uses sun-dried tomatoes, dried basil.

My landlady would use the San Marzano (from the slopes of Vesuvius) Romas she would can into glass jars in the summer, for the winter version, or her own sun-dried tomatoes in herbes oil. She also used pancetta, but she and landlord Gennaro became addicted to thick American bacon, which I happily swapped for some of her tomatoes in winter.

I just thought this was pretty funny.... The chemistry of bacon.

I'm waiting to post a short briefing on the NC Bacon Festival this coming weekend. The thread still lives! :-D

I may do something bacon-related this weekend as well. Will post something when I get back.

For those of us heading to Naptown for Navy-Air Force weekend, how about a ranking of local bacon offerings? Surely, that will get this thread to 10 pages!

Grump’s Cafe Bacon Waffles with a side of bacon! Breakfast all day. Servers wear pajamas. Wear whatever you have on. Keep an eye out for “walk of shame” folks eating cheeseburgers for breakfast and wearing last night’s clothes.

Bacon Bloody Mary at Lures!
Dress a little bit better but casual still fine. Great menu with something for everyone, off the beaten track (not in DTA) or in mall areas. I mentioned them recently. I’m revealing a local secret used to avoid game day crowds for a SA/SA game.

As it turns out, I will be ordering a Bacon Bloody Mary at Lures this weekend. I also plan to go to Anne's Dari-Creme. Thanks for the ideas, @Capt MJ. :)
