Important matters concerning the existence of Humanity - BACON

I started today’s crimes at 0600, drizzling ganache made with 80% Lindt chocolate over a marbled pumpkin-chocolate Bundt cake. The warm chocolate from the icing pot tasted pretty darn good with the bacon-topped oatmeal. I did think about crumbled bacon atop the cake...but shelved it for an experiment to be scheduled another time. Headed to the gym now, one of my must-do’s today.

I would add: the only reason there is no bacon, is that my MIDN made it home late, and all his buddies and siblings are crashed anywhere and everywhere in the basement...our big dog happily spooned by my MIDN. Brings a tear to my eye. But I don’t need to prep a breakfast...I won’t see eyes until 1:00 I suspect. Just in time for the feast.

1 Tbsp peanut butter powder

Not to derail this blessed thread, but am I the only one who’s miffed, disturbed, maybe even a bit disgusted, that there’s such a thing as peanut butter powder? (I say this as an unapologetic fan of Jif creamy peanut butter who, when feeling flush, will sometimes splurge on Justin’s.)

Perhaps I’m missing out on some culinary delight or maybe this is a regional delicacy. Just having trouble getting my arms around it. Now, crisp bacon strips with Jif on toasted wheat bread? That I can do!

It’s a thing. I have it. Pb2 powder is the brand I use. I prefer it as an additive to smoothies, sauces, etc than as an alternative to peanut butter. It’s dehydrated peanuts, that you can reconstitute and use as waaaay less fat alternative to the real stuff. But it’s along the lines of no fat mayo. No fat sour cream. No fat cheese. Just not the same. I do like it though as a sprinkle on or in stuff. They even make chocolate Pb2.

PB powder is a great way to amp up the PB intensity in any dish, and in certain dishes works better than the butter. It is not in any way a substitute for real PB, and my personal favorite PB, where the label just reads “Ingredients: peanuts,” or “Ingredients: peanuts, salt,” such as Trader Joe’s, Smucker’s, or a few others. No sugar, no added oil, no hydrogenated whatever, no stabilizers taking up the room in a jar that should be exclusively occupied by fatally smashed up peanuts hanging out in their own oil.

And PB and bacon is indeed a desert island must-have, agreed!

In the kitchen at the family Thanksgiving yesterday, the talk turned to bacon. The three branches of the family present agreed Wright’s was one of the best OTS brands, but we oohed and aahed over Benton’s Bacon in TN, as my nephew-in-law, a master smoker with multiple rigs in the backyard, showed us this website:

My son actually informed me tonight that PB powder is used when brewing a PB flavored beer. Yes, people do this stuff. Surprised DS hasn't tried it. I enjoyed his lavender beer during our Thanksgiving visit.

And back to the purpose of the thread... PB and bacon sounds heavenly. As soon as I saw it mentioned I said "Duhhhh. I should have thought of that! "

Baltimore is home to The Du Claw brewing company. They make two beers with peanut butter.

They make Sweet Baby Jesus, which is their best-selling of all time, Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter.
Sweet Baby Java starts with their SBJ, and is hop-gunned with cold-steeped, whole bean espresso.

>Sorry, that's just wrong, as is adding fruit to beer. While I enjoy craft beers, the German Reinheitsgebot (beer purity law) with provides that beer is to be brewed from Barley, Hops and Water (and yeast) is good guidance for all brewers.

(Now back to Bacon......)

The combo of PB and bacon is supreme. Best burger I have ever had was a shocker for me. Eaten in my early teens while on summer vacation in San Diego. Traditional bun, crisp cold lettuce, creamy peanut butter, crisp bacon strips and juicy ground beef burger. So good, and what a surprise for this country hick kid. I haven't thought about that burger in years. Thank you for the jaunt down memory lane.

I will second that.
Mmmm🥓🥓

Are those fried green beans with it?

Yes. They also do deep fried spam bites and tator tots with any of their wing treatments on them (mostly fork fare.) I love the place.

Please tell me they deep fry Oreos or Snickers bars for the full-fat immersion treatment.

I would do at least two (2) strips of bacon around each pickle.

Found this over the Thanksgiving holiday in the Old Market downtown Omaha...

Wonder if that would work with PB?!
