Hello Members,

We are planning a road trip from NYC to USAFA. We planned to leave on the In-Processing Day after dropping off our DS and driving back to NYC. However, we are also thinking of staying another night just to attend events during I Day. We are asking for comment about the events and timeline of I Day. Thank you in advance.

According to the 2026 Appointee Document, the drop off will be similar to last year in that it will be a "drive by and go." The next morning all the Basic Cadets will participate in a mass swearing in on the Stillman Parade Field. We've watched it before when they had it on the Terrazzo. The guests would watch from up at the chapel wall. We really enjoyed it and it gives you a huge amount of pride and patriotism. After that they cadets will probably head back up to the cadet area to continue their training.

Water works alert - there is a great sense of pride for parents to know the next chapter is starting for their kids, but there is also a heavy moment that sets in at this event whereby every parent thinks they can recognize their kid in a crowd and the panic that sets in when you cannot. There is a mold, profile, prototypical build for a SA student. When all of the males heads are shaved, and everyone is in an identical uniform wearing an identical baseball cap.... one's ability to spot Timmy in the crowd is the preverbal needle in the haystack and this will lead to many a tear from mom and dad.

Brace yourself... it may be hard but know that Timmy is out there living his best life and he's got this.

Where did you find the appointee doc?

I literally tear up every time I think about this!! All I can think of is the newborn baby in my arms, wasn't that just last week??

It's currently available on the "USAFA Class of 2026 Parents Group" facebook page. It should be in student portals on 4/1.
Any chance you can attach it here? My parents aren’t the Facebook type and I have an eye appointment today. I would like to get the most up to date info on glasses for BCT. Thank you.

Sorry, I tried but the file is too large!

Very helpful, thank you.

are you on the appointee Instagram? There is a kid who is sending it to those who have not received it yet.

Last year we did drop-off and go then parents could go to Doolittle Hall to do some shopping for USAFA gear, write a letter to be delivered to your basic and attend a cookout by the Colorado parents group. The swearing in was a week later - not the next day - and streamed online. Not sure what plans are for this year.

The class parent FB group is very helpful. One thing we did that was attend a dinner/show at the Flying W Ranch a couple days ahead coordinated by parents on the FB page. Had a pretty big group go. Was fun to meet some other parents going through the same emotions and the basics got to meet before I-Day so they saw a familiar face or two during BCT.

Sounds like a fun adventure they are about to start. I never looked back when I went in the Army, I assume our kids are all looking to their bright and exciting futures. I am jealous, that have it all in front of them as we are probably near the end of our journey.

According to the USAFA calendar, the swearing in is scheduled for June 24th. Of course there is always a possibility for changes.
