Indoc date for Class of 2022

Based on last year it is June 28. All the date stuff is on the USNA website. Including deadlines for various parts of the application.

I-Day = Induction Day. No “Indoc,” though that would be a logical assumption. Navy folk get “inducted” into service. Not quite like a Hall of Fame, though...

Look at Academic calendar, Summer 2018.

Is it difficult booking hotel rooms around that time?

Annapolis is a relatively small town. There are certain times it becomes like a Super Bowl City, such as Commissioning Week, Parents Weekends to include Plebe Parents Weekend in August, football weekends that fall during fall Boat Show...and Induction Day (I-Day). Multiply 1200-ish plebes x 2-3 family members. Add those cars to the narrow one-way streets and three traffic circles in Annapolis.

Search the Naval Academy forum for “I-Day hotels” - there are many with all kinds of advice and insight. These threads start peaking as PTR (Permits to Report) start arriving in several months. And - not all families come to I-Day, because it might be a challenge to return for PPW (Plebe Parents Weekend) later in the same summer. There are many threads about which to choose and why. So - do Search “I-Day” Friday for years of collective wisdom.

Some basics:
- people with military ID can drive on the Yard and park
- all should get a letter allowing a car to be driven on Yard and drop off P2B (Plebe To Be) but then park elsewhere off-Yard
- many park at off-Yard Navy Stadium and take the free shuttles back to Yard
- many choose hotels that offer shuttles or stay in walkable hotels
- many opt for AirBnB or similar, or Annapolis Accommodations
- there are DTA (Downtown Annapolis) hotels and B&Bs
- there are clusters of the usual business chain hotels a few miles away near shopping complexes, as well as nearby towns and BWI airport
- it’s always worth calling the property direct and asking if they have a Naval Academy Friends and Family rate code, and if they do free shuttles. Area hotels thrive on this business and want your repeat business.
- for those eligible, there is a Navy Lodge at NSA Annapolis just the other side of the Severn River, as well as a few rooms on the Yard itself
- demand for rooms will mirror the appointment waves that are coming
- report times start early and are staggered through the morning
- some come with entire entourages of family, coach, pastor, Scout leader, family friends, and others come solo. It can be a high-stress day. Yep, there are threads and posts on this. Take into account what feels right for P2B and immediate family.

Short answer ;) is: yes, it can be a challenge.

Parking on the Yard is nice, but with the current construction going on it can be very difficult to find a spot to park on anything but quiet weekends. Most "normal" weekends it is easy to drive on and off the Yard as you need to for pickup and drop off of your Mid, but for any event weekend it can be tough. I don't know the construction schedules, but based on my fairly regular visits it seems unlikely that everything will be completed for this year's I-Day. Maybe the parking garage?
For I-Day the shuttles to and from the stadium run often enough to be pretty convenient. I wouldn't hesitate to park at the stadium for I-Day.

We stayed at a hotel within walking distance for my DS class of 2018 and it was a lovely walk over in the early morning...no traffic to deal with, no parking issues , and no bus to deal with. We will do the same for our DD class of 2022.

What is the name of the hotel did you stayed. Any suggested hotel within walking distance to the Yard. Thanks.

Try the Search function in this forum.

There are numerous threads on hotels - great info on what’s closest, who offers friends and family USNA rates, who offers shuttles, as well as comments on renting from VRBO, Home Away, AirBnB, Annapolis Accommodations.

One of my favorite recommendations is Gibson’s Lodgings. Adjacent to Perry walk gate on Prince George St. near Gate 1. And - off-street parking. Walk everywhere in DTA.

We got a reservation at Gibson's - great to know it's a favorite and within walking distance!!

Does anyone know the NAPS Indoc date for 2018?

No “Indoc” despite thread name. Navy uses “Induction,” a classic term for coming into the armed forces.

See this page on USNA.edu for NAPS 2017. It will be close to that date. I don’t think it’s updated yet. I also checked various USNA.edu/calendars links but didn’t see it on first quick pass.

As I usually do, I recommend reading every page, dropdown and link on USNA.edu

Ok - I have been struck by the Siri/Alexa Syndrome. I simply picked up the phone and called the admin number on the NAPS website, using vocal communications skills honed in the 20th c. I spoke to a live human and asked the question.
Their I-Day is usually the Tuesday of that week mentioned above, so it looks like the 24th of July. The admin person said they usually have an open house the day before for those who cannot me early. This is not official, just because I am passing on what I learned.

BTW - unless something has drastically changed over the years there is no "I Day" ceremony for NAPS. NAPSters enlist in the Navy, and report with regular Navy orders.

“Cannot me” = “come” in iphonese

We stayed at the Westin... It took us about 25 minutes to walk over.

Although it is nice to be in walking distance of the yard, parking in downtown Annapolis is difficult and some of the hotels charge a lot of $$$ for parking. We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott, about 2-3 miles away and parked at the Navy- Marine Corp stadium for $5. They run shuttles starting at like 5:30am and continue all day until long after the indoctrination ceremony. My daughter and I stayed on the yard and walked into DTA to get a bite to eat and walk around during the day until the indoctrination ceremony. We took the shuttle back to the car and headed home, it is a very long emotional day to say the least. Wear your walking shoes and comfortable clothing, it can be very HOT. We also brought a blanket and some snacks, drinks etc that we set up along Stripling walk, your plebe will be able to visit with you for 20-30min after the Indoctrination and they may be hungry or thirsty. There will be tons of info and discussion about this topic before I-Day, try not to stress and enjoy these last few months with your DS or DD.
