"Ineligible" for NROTC scholarship?

DS received a notice that he was "ineligible" for the scholarship, had no disqualifying issues, passed his medical and PT. Was told the only reason for this was acceptance of another ROTC scholarship (did not apply for others) or acceptance into an academy (no word yet, but applied to USAFA and USNA).

Curious if anyone else has been in the same boat.

Sound like a mistake. Who notified him? He should be making some phone calls, as even if he had accepted another scholarship or academy appointment, that is not grounds for ineligibility.

Agree with Jcc123. One wouldn't lose a ROTC scholarship until one reported to the academy, not when one received an appointment. Same thing with other ROTC scholarships.

He called the Navy PoC (as well as their boss) and that was their response and there was NO other reason for it, so who knows.

Not that an appointment should disqualify him and he should definitely keep banging on doors to find out why that happened, but maybe they know something you don't yet and an appointment is on it's way? Silver lining :)

But an appointment to a SA should not disqualify someone from a ROTC scholarship. Reporting to a SA disqualifies someone. It is quite possible that someone would prefer a Civilian College and ROTC over a SA. Acceptance of another ROTC scholarship should not disqualify. There have been many with AROTC, NROTC and AFROTC scholarships, none active, but they are choosing which is right for them. Maybe they think he is in a SA or has recieved scholarship money from another ROTC program. I would be knocking on doors to find out the specifics, because it doesn't sound right. Maybe they have him confused with someone else.

I agree, my DD has a 4-yr AROTC and is still waiting on USMA and AFA so I definitely agree he should be knocking on doors. I was just adding silver lining that maybe appointment on way :)

I agree, something doesn't seem right. I have reached out and they are researching. The only other option they mentioned was if they packet has been submitted too late (he had everything done well in advance). So...we shall see.

I believe the deadline to have everything sent from the regional office to Pensacola was March 10.

He had everything in before the end of the year. One option is the recruiters didn't get everything uploaded in time and the higher ups are checking into it. But, if that is the case there is no recourse. (Not like I can make them pay for a years tuition at Stanford or Penn) Hoping for the best as we are still waiting on other options.

Well, we got our answer. Seems the recruiters failed to upload several docs. (and yes, he was told it was their job to do so.) Doubt we have any recourse, but I am one upset parent to say the least.

Mine did the same until I called the coordinator , and he got them to send them in finally

Don't blame you. Hope that perhaps something can be done.

Sadly the deadline was the end of Jan and results are supposed to be out in a couple of weeks, so it is probably too late. Maybe they can make an exception for him (since it wasn't his fault), but I'm not holding my breath.

Our experience with the NROTC was less than stellar as well. Seems to be an ongoing and widespread problem.
