Some of you are no doubt wondering why you haven't heard from your BGO. The sad -- but true -- fact is that we don't know who you are. USNA is rolling out a new IT system for BGOs. They have run into various glitches so we don't yet have it. Until they get it sorted out, we don't have a list of candidates assigned to us. So, unless you've already reached out to your BGO, your BGO isn't able to contact you. Once the system is operational, it will still likely take a bit of getting used to.

If you have contact info for your BGO, feel free to reach out. However, if you don't, it's not a problem. Everyone else in the country is in the same situation. It will sort itself out.

Finally, keep in mind that COVID may affect how interviews occur this year. There has not been any official guidance from USNA, but some BGOs and candidates may be looking to Skype/Zoom, etc. Time will tell.

Just be patient! It's a long way until Jan. 31 and beyond. In the meantime, work on the things you can do now, both for your application and for noms.

The USAFA candidate booklet said those interviews will all be by a virtual platform this year. Curious if USNA will adopt the same?

I've got to think it will at least be an option but that's my opinion not USNA guidance/policy. However, it's only July 1 . . . who knows what the situation will be on Aug. 1, let alone by the end of the year.

Read a memo that stated the new system will have a space for notation of location of interview and 'Virtual' was one of the options. Covid and a new system all at once...YAY! What could possibly go wrong!?!

Thanks for posting '85 ! I just received an email through the BGO channels that there is still some work to do on the new BGIS system. For anyone that has gone through any type of software cutover/launch, you will understand there are growing pains.

With respect to "virtual" interviews, I raised the question with Admissions at a briefing a year or so ago, and the response was not too encouraging. (I live in State where BGO's and Candidates often travel 2-3 hours for interviews). That was well before COVID, and I would expect that the "new normal" for video conferencing will be recognized this year at least.

I would also encourage candidates to use this time wisely. Everyone knows that most candidates are not spending this summer at camps or working a job, or Boys'/Girls' state, etc. Thus, there is really no excuse for not getting done now all aspects of your application for which you're responsible and your MOC packages as well. Do your CFA if you can find a proctor -- it should be possible even with social distancing since the person can administer from a distance. Keep in mind that you can always update your package if events warrant.

Somehow I am working 2 jobs, conditioning for fall ball, did my CFA, and am now working on 8 essays for my MOC and 2 senators. I am exhausted at night but doing what I can. I am not complaining that I have those activities/jobs as we know that can change at any time. I hated being quarantined although that is when I trained for my CFA.

Through the fun and giggles of corporate changes/downsizes, I managed to work through THREE cutover/launches of THIS software. Even though each company had custom setups (as will USNA), they were not that far apart. Sadly I will report that just getting it "started" and getting
the users going on it is not the end point.
