From the CGA web site:

Our first set of files in the regular admissions process has just completed review. Once these files are processed, we will begin sending out appointments. The earliest you can expect this to happen is probably the end of next week. We will do our best to have most appointments out by March 1st, but may still be reviewing files after that time.

Sounds like the CGA just advanced the time on the clock in the Waiting Game!

I'd be a bit cautious. I'm wondering if they meant to say April 1st...we shall see!

That site is so heavily moderated that I wonder if they have a proofreader or lawyer reviewing the posts before they are approved. If the poster, a CGA admissions officer, missed it by a month you can bet he's got egg on his face!

That is true. It was prompted by a question asking if appointments would be made by March 1st. Of course some will but not the majority IMHO. As stated before my son heard on March 29th. Some will hear soon but others will be waiting a while unfortunately.

The March 1st date is interesting since the website says the deadline for applications is March 1st. Of course they should be in prior - but I guess that date is to make room for a very highly qualified late-comer.

Anyway, the way I understand it is - if/when appointments are declined - more appointments are made to keep the class full.

I'd fork over some of my very scarce funds to subscribe to a website that shows in real-time, scoreboard style the current service academy appointments available, offered, declined, and accepted. That would give us Waiting Game players not only something to do but allow us to keep up-to-date on our chance of success.

Considering the fact that the government is running in the red and always wants more 'revenue', certainly someone could pitch a proposal to the military for a contractor to run a business that makes money off the Waiting Gamers and sends revenue to the service academies. It's a win-win all the way around! :shake:

Ha ha that would be something! The next two months are definitely killers. My dd is waiting to hear although she has already gotten into three good civilian schools. Makes it a little easier.

Ok so DD has joined the alternate's pool as of this week. She was told most appointments will be made by May 1st. Oh boy...:frown:

That's tough news for my son. He has to accept or reject offers from other academies by then. I doubt he's going to release the birds in hand and take a chance on the CG bird in the bush, even though that's the one he really wants. Not only does the Waiting Game require patience, it seems to invite risk taking. :frown:

so there is still a good possibility of acceptance even if you are an alternate?

and your daughter has just been notified of alternate status?

Yes to both questions. She got her paperwork in late in the game. She just got the letter saying she was an alternate and that most decisions would be made by May 1.

The admissions process at CGA is very fluid, they are probably waiting for offers to be declined to make more appointments.
Many of those offers that will be ultimately be declined are from kids who are waiting for their first choices to come through.
CGA like the other academies will continue to appoint right up to the end in order to fill a class.

Commissioner: If USCGA is your son's first choice will he really be happy at USMAPS and ultimately West Point? I wonder if he talks to his admission officer if he/can can help him come up with a plan to make his application better so he can increase his chances by re-applying if he is ultimately rejected.
These surely are difficult decisions our youngsters are tyring to make!

My son will be making official visits to USMA and USMAPS next week. Normally they (WP) don't give tours of USMAPS but his AO is making special arrangements. I hope to post AARs since I will be going along for the ride.

As for USCGA, he feels he's done the best he can do at this point. His chances are now determined by the decisions of others. All he can hope for is others will decide to go elsewhere in the next two weeks and an appointment opens for him. If he doesn't land in New London, I am confident that he will prosper wherever he goes because fundamentally his goal is to serve his country. Mission and tactics can be learned. Attitude and desire cannot.

I keep telling him that he is learning one of the great lessons in life. He has to "play the hand he's been dealt." At least he's holding a pair right now which is better than nothing.

Sounds like you both have an excellent attitude - keep plugging away. Sometimes what is meant to happen just happens.
