The DoDMERB screen says "in process" under USMA; son has LOA and nom. For USNA it says 11/19 offer extended; sub agency NALOA. Does this mean that Navy will be sending an LOA soon? What does "in process" mean for USMA? He's had the LOA for about a week.

thanks!

"In Process" means your son's physical examination is being reviewed by a DoDMERB reviewer and/or physician.

For USNA the sub-agency of NALOA means that USNA has forwarded information to DoDMERB that the applicant is in the LOA pool.

pool?

"In the LOA pool" means is getting an LOA? Might get an LOA? What does that mean? He has a USMA LOA and NOM and is 3Q'd per USMA. This Navy one is new and we're trying to figure out what it means. Thanks!

From my understanding, he should have an LOA from USNA. The best way to confirm would be to call the USNA admissions office tomorrow.

I spoke with admissions, and he in fact should be finding an LOA in the mail box any day!!! The officer I spoke with was very nice. She said, "As he is already medically qualified, all he'll need to do is secure a nomination. Congratulations!"

Happy Thanksgiving!! Woo hoo!!

The website seems to have changed from last year - I got curious about this and went to the fridge and looked at the prinout of my daughter's medical waiver on the DoDMERB site - yes I screen printed the page and posted it on the fridge (it was a happy day!)

My daughter applied to 3 SA's and AROTC last year - was offered at AROTC scholarship - she is reapplying to USMA.

There was not a row declaring Admission status last year.

This year under each agency it says:
Agency: (the academy or rotc program)
Admission status: (AROTC says accepted, USMA says in process and USNA says withdrawn - curiously CGA says in process and she never finished her application last year - I guess they never updated it)
Admission Status change date: AROTC - 4/13/07, USMA - 8/2/07, USNA - 3/23/07, USCGA 9/26/07 (date application was added)
Current Medical Status: AROTC and USMA both say Medical waiver granted 8/7/07 (this date was updated since last spring), USNA and USCGA both say pending waiver- submission review 8/7/07.

Clearly what is new from last year is the Admission status and the Admission status date change.
It appears from this and what other posters on this and other forums are saying that the Naval Academy is updating the Admission status at the speed of light. While this efficiency is remarkable in government - kids seem to be finding out their admission status - offered, or LOA from the DoDMERB website and not from admissions directly.
I understand this is coming directly from admissions and not DoDMERB and I wonder if admissions is aware of this.
Look ahead to next spring when rejections start going out - from the DoDMERB website my daughter got her rejection from USNA on 3/23 but didn't get her letter until mid-April.

IMO - kids should not be finding out their admissions status from the DoDMERB website but that is what is happening.

It's not just the Naval Academy. USMMA LOA's (Offer Extended) were posted on the DODMERB web site well before the "official" letter arrived.

yes - I have seen that as well -
I don't know about USAFA - if kids are finding out from the DoDmerb website or not..... anyone?

USAFA LOA arrived in the mail on a Friday. DODMERB website was changed to "Offer Extended" by the next Wednesday.

and that is how it should be.......

Why?

E-communications are here to stay, the US Mail is lagging far behind in today's world. Being able to communicate across the country instantly may seem impersonal to us, but to today's kids its completely natural.

USAFA and USMMA (not sure about the others) have candidate log-in pages that display their current admission status as well.

Any candidate can check their status changes/updates at the respective academy site before the old slow US snail mail arrives.

Is it DODMERB you have the issue with, or the idea of electronically communicating the admission status in general?

I have a problem with DoDMERB communicating the admission status to candidates.
All communications of admissions status changes should be directly through the admission office - not through DoDMERB.

In cases of an appointment through the MOC - the admissions office usually gives the MOC a chance to call the candidate. An MOC should not be calling with good news only to find the candidate found out through the DoDMERB website.
Likewise with rejections. Candidates should be informed directly through admissions.
Candidates should hear from admissions FIRST - either by email, snail mail, telephone or online - that doesn't appear to be what is happening.

Obviously a SNAFU which will be corrected. I am sure in this electronic age, they can put a delay on the DoDMERB transmittal. They are aware of the problem.

Well, everyone in my family is still high as a kite, so we don't consider this a problem!

Oh heck absolutely! I am thrilled that you guys were able to figure it out.
But you should have had direct communication from USNA admissions and found out in a way that didn't make you wonder........

The purpose of DoDMERB is not to inform candidates of admissions decisions.

Hopefully when you son receives his appointments the notification will come from either his MOC (sometimes they call candidates personally) or from the admissions office.
Congrats again!

As well you should be. I think there is a new reporting system and they haven't got the bugs worked out yet. There is a "right" way to do things and a "not quite as right". It is an important occassion. You deserve to hear the news from the source. Again, congratulations.

"the source"

I called and talked to "the source" and while a letter in the mail would have been the best way (or a phone call), had I not been on CC and read Micah's post, I wouldn't have thought to look on DoDMERB.There is no diminishing of joy! I had thought to wait a few days and let the letter come and let son find out that way, but I want him to be thinking about his choices so I went ahead and told him. Also, I wanted to make that phone call to the congressman so he could have all the info as his committee makes the decision in the next week. No matter how you slice it, S has an LOA to Navy and that is HUGE! What a fortunate young man to have so many options/choices. His dad and I are very proud and appreciate all the advice we've received on this site!!
