My DS is looking at various foundation schools for USNA. I can't find much information about Greystone in the forums and wanted any feedback you might have. DS received appointment to USNA for Class of 2023 but was injured prior to I-Day. He is trying to decide best path to help him prepare for hopefully being appointed to USNA Class of 2024.

If he was appointed for USNA Class of 2023 but was injured and the injury will be fine by next year I believe the academies will usually send the candidate an LOA that reserves a spot if all requirements for appointment are met. If that is your case, your DS can attend post secondary school just about anywhere, just make sure he takes similar classes to what a plebe takes. You don't need to worry about prep school unless that is your choice if he has an LOA. I believe (someone with more knowledge here help please) he will still need some form of Nomination and a "clean bill of health", but the LOA basically reserves his place if everything else is met. At least that is how I understand it, again anyone with better knowledge feel free to jump in..:)

Thank you!

The best option to help prepare your son depends on your son. If he has the maturity and strong educational foundation, he should attend a four year college and take plebe like classes. The academic preparation will trump anything he may get from a Military prep school. If he lacks some maturity or does not have the best foundation, a year at a prep school may help.

Thank you! He is thinking that a foundation school will help him be more disciplined and physically stronger (he has several months of PT ahead after surgery for a broken arm). Hopefully he will finalize his Plan B soon!

Greystone is a great prep school. My son went there and got into USCGA (his first choice) and also received the NROTC scholarship and got into Michigan, UNC, Virginia, Vanderbilt and Boston College. He got waitlisted at Georgetown and Cornell. This was two years ago. I can't say enough good things about the place.

@NavyMomtobeHopefully My good friend's son went to Greystone. He LOVED his experience. He graduates this year from USAFA! He shared that he is grateful for the preparation Greystone gave him.
