So I have, for the majority of my life, been considerably healthy. However, as a freshman in high school, I had a couple stress fractures on L4/5 on my back. Both have completely healed and don’t bother me at all. During sophomore year, I had ACL reconstruction on my left leg with a patella graft. Does this disqualify me for service. My goal is to commissioned as an officer, Marine/Navy aviation. Any insight or personal experiences related to this? Or am I just screwed?

You may be asked for remedials but you should be fine. The stress fractures in your spine may be a bit of a concern for aviation. What caused them?

Crappy weightlifting form caused by coaches in the 7th-9th grade that wanted more weight regardless of how bad the form was combined with a kid that didn’t want to let them down.

You should be ok on the ACL repair. Your doctor should note that you’re back to full activities, no residual pain, full range of motion, and stable knee (he can do tests like anterior/posterior drawer test, Lachlan test, etc). It would be good if you played a varsity or club sport after the surgery to prove all is well.

As for the L4/5 stress fracture, you’ll probably have to show some x-rays to ensure DODMERB you don’t have any compression fractures or other spinal pathology like spondylolesthesis and. spondylolysis.

I don’t think you’re screwed. You’ve got a good chance of medical qualification.

Thank you. I am a varsity wrestler and potential captain for the upcoming senior year.
