Hello, our son has incurred a shoulder injury while wrestling for his High school. Concern is being DQ'd for shoulder surgery to the Academy and or Seal program. Any and all information on this will be greatly appreciated. He may need Arthroscopic Bankard repair.

My son had an accident resulting in a labral tear in his shoulder freshman year. His orthopedic doctor recommended physical therapy to be followed by surgery if PT was unsuccessful. He followed his PT recommendations and has thankfully not had a recurrence of instability or subluxations since.

Dodmerb requested remedials and we sent in all his medical paperwork. He was subsequently disqualified for 225 - history of any dislocation, subluxation, or instability of the shoulder.

The AFA requested a waiver on his behalf two months ago and we are still waiting to hear. However AFROTC granted him a waiver yesterday!

I have read of others on these boards who have had the surgical repair and gone on to have it waived. Obviously each case is different but I hope this helps.

Thanks,

It builds confidence that there is still a good chance for acceptance, he goes for a direct inject MRI so we should know the best course of action to take once that is reviewed.

Hopefully you have a good ortho doctor advising you. The long term strength and use of his shoulder is what's most important in my opinion.
