Please join us for an another informational Zoom meeting on Tuesday, 29 November at 2000EST! Our current MIDN will have a brief presentation and then open the floor to questions so please bring all your questions about NROTC, the application process, Notre Dame, or college life in general. This is highly encouraged for prospective MIDN and any parents that would like to learn more about the program. We hope to see you there!

I wasn't able to make this meeting back in November.

The question I have about Notre Dame is how does an Engineering major finish in 4 years? Notre Dame accepts no AP credit for core, doesn't accept Naval Science classes towards graduation, and requires 132 credit hours to graduate. Adding in the Naval Science credit hours puts the total credit hours over 150. That is around 19 credit hours per semester.

I did find that Mech E majors can use one 4000 level Naval Science course for General Tech Elective and one 4000 level course for History (Liberal Arts 5).

You spend more time in class than others. You spend more time studying than others. You do less screwing around than others.

My DD would agree with you on that! It's a grueling load. Most semesters she had over 20 credit hours. One semester her senior year she had only 18 hours, as she took a summer class to lighten her load. She was also an RA her Senior year. She still loved ND, NROTC and her experience there and no regrets..

Yes, you will have 20+ credit hours per semester and lots of ROTC activities.

Had 2 sons complete the ND NROTC program as civil engineering majors and yes, you will carry overloads, but it's achievable. My son's were still able to juggle academics, NROTC, intramurals, and dorm life. You will need to commit to studying, sleep becomes a lower priority. But neither would change a thing. Both are aviation...1 helos, 1 P8s...words of advice, you will have numerous friend groups...your rotc friends, your dorm friends, your study group friends, etc....dont put all your emphasis on your ROTC friends only, make time for all of them...my son's are still in close contact with friends from each of their support groups...these are definitely destined to be lifelong friendships.

Thank you to all!
