Interesting Nomination

Just a quick question, my nominations has a duplicate and I couldn't find anything online that tells me what it means. Probably because it might be a glitch or something. Just wanted to ask if anyone else has encountered this before. Thank you!

No glitch. I might have an improper explanation, but to my knowledge your MOC had two slots available and you got a nom from both slots!! Congrats!

Thank you for the reply! So my MOC had two fully vacant spots and I got both or them? I'm not entirely sure what that means. Can you please explain further? Thank you again!
 
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. I believe that every MOC has a certain amount of people they can have appointed at the academy at one time (5). Since a cadet graduates in 4 years, that means that one year TWO people from the same MOC could be appointed to USMA. Or if you aren't in a competitive district there might not be an appointment one year, which allows for multiple appointments another year.

One slot available means that the MOC can give a nom to 10 people at most. However, when they have two slots open they can submit 10 for each slot. So, from my understanding you received a nomination on both of his slates. According to my math, this at least doubles your chances. Hope this helped understand a little.

Last year my son recieved two nominations to USMA from the same senator, who had two open slots. He also had one from our congressman. We never were able to figure out which nomination West Point used. They like having options, and it doesn't matter at all to the candidate. It's a good thing though for sure.
 
Interesting. So, if a congressman has 2 open slots he has 20 available nominations. Does he pick which 10 candidates are on each slate?

I was thinking that all 20 would be competing against each other instead of only 10 per slate competing against each other.
 
Your MOC can do it however they see fit. He can have one name on each slate, 20 different candidates on the two slates or any combination between those two extremes. What ever method they use, you would compete against the the other individuals on your slate.

I think the MOC can submit ten names for one slot, and ten for another, or could submit up to twenty total names and let USMA figure it out. I didn't think that they could give twenty names for each slot though. In my son's case, he was listed as a name on each of our senator's two slots. It surprised us, but we certainly didn't complain. He already had his appointment from USMA before that senators nominations appeared on his portal though, as he already had received another nomination from our congressman. Son's RC told us he didnt know which nomination would be applied at the time, because they like the flexibility to be able to use one or two of the slots on other candidates. So, unless a candidate has only one nomination, you never really know which nomination is being applied.
