Can someone enlighten me on these two areas of the Coast Guard? I've done google searches but haven't found very much information on them.

For IIP, the new ACoC, who previously was stationed there, told us she came close to getting the Aviation Mission Specialist wings. What do they do in the helo's and hercs?

I've also heard that we have the option of going to Dive School firstie summer. One of my instructors last year was a Dive Officer on his buoy tender, but I'm not sure how much of a career that is. What do they do?

The International Ice Patrol is with C-130s. Technically it's international, but I would say, 99% is done by the U.S. Coast Guard. Tracking ice....fun....no. They do land in some cool places.

Who was the ACOC? I met/talked to the old XO of IIP, she was female.

The International Ice Patrol is right down the street from you. I'm sure you could make a call and visit one day when you have some free time. Check out a libo van and make the 5 min drive.

Hey LITS!

Her name is CDR McGrath. She seems decent so far. The Corps really hasn't had much interaction with her just yet. (Probably a good thing since that interaction typically involves masts)

They look for ice. They use a sophisticated electronic detection package, but the job still requires looking for ice.

As for Dive Officer, it's a collateral duty, not a career. Some ships have a dive officer and a few divers. Since the unfortunate accident with the divers off of CGC Healy, the dive program is currently in the process of being overhauled. You'll have to stand by for more on that,
