How are you doing y’all,
I am an international candidate and an upcoming member of USNA C/O 2028. I am new to the US and Annapolis and I am really not sure on what to bring with me from my home country whether it was from clothes or anything in general. I just wanted to know more about Annapolis like it’s weather or even lifestyle. So if you guys could just give me a brief description and help me out, I would really appreciate it. One more thing, does USNA provide laptops or should I bring my own laptop and iPad?
Thanks alot

In general, USNA does not allow you to bring very much from home as there is not storage space, especially Plebe summer/year. You can and probably should report with literally nothing more than your required paperwork, phone with charger and broken in Running shoes. Many have come in with just their paperwork and done just fine. As you are an international candidate, there might be some special guidance regarding clothing but that is outside of what you're probably going to get here.
As for the laptop, they will issue you and all of your classmates the correct laptop. I recommend against bringing the IPAD to Induction day. You can get it at Parents weekend or later either from parent/family member or by mail.

A few quick answers, and a big congratulations and welcome!

- Laptop. You’ll be issued one that will have the security configurations to work with the USNA government system.
-iPad. Can someone send it to you after Plebe Summer? Are you seeing anyone from your own Embassy in Washington who can hold onto a few things for you? You won’t be allowed to keep it on Induction Day (I think you come in a few days before that for orientation). I am not sure how your iPad would be stored during plebe summer.
- Clothes. You will be in a uniform all during Plebe Summer. Plebes do not have civilian clothes privileges, until they leave USNA grounds to go on leave. That is not a big problem for you right now. You will be issued all kinds of uniforms, athletic gear, coats, jackets, shoes, socks. The first time you will be able to wear civilian clothes is Thanksgiving holiday in November. The Midshipman Store carries civilian clothes. Plenty of time to solve that problem.
- The Permit to Report will tell you what to bring. The joke is you can report with the clothes on your back and required paperwork and you’ll be fine. Go find the Induction Day thread here on the USNA forum. The link for the PTR is posted there. No doubt you will be sent other instructions.
- It will be hot and humid when you get here. Annapolis has a nice change of seasons. Nothing is too exteme. Yes, it can be cold and icy-rainy and sometimes snowy in the winter, but never “arctic” like more northern areas of the U.S. Winters are not long. Spring and fall are temperate and beautiful.
- Phone. You can bring that with it’s charged, but you will probably have to do something about a new SIM or e-SIM card and network carrier you can set up to automatically get paid.

You might want to ask the international coordinator in Admissions to put you in contact with a current international mid to help you with specific advice.
