My daughter has her Nomination interview coming up- Is a suit jacket and matching dress pants acceptable ? she is really uncomfortable in dresses or skirts.

Yes ... that would be great.

A professional looking pants and jacket combination is fine.

Think simple, conservative, and professional with attention to details.
  • Avoid large jewelry, or loud patterns
  • Minimize accessories.
  • Don't wear too much perfume or cologne.
  • Use common sense for the region - Arizona will be more casual than Washington DC.
  • Good tailoring and fit is more important than expensive clothes.

I was the chauffeur to our son's 3 interviews. I sat in the car and observed candidates come and go. Ladies wore a mix of skirts/slacks and all but 1 had either a jacket or light weight sweater on. I saw no dresses, and one pair of jeans with a blouse and sweater. I would say also, do not overdo the makeup, use chapstick or light lip gloss and deodorant! Oh, and a last minute brush of the teeth!

I just sat on a MOC board. We interviewed a handful of female candidates. They all wore slacks, nice blouse and a few had on blazers or matching suit jacket with pants. It happened to be cold and rainy the day we did interviews. If they are used to heels, it’s fine to skip them. Don’t wear jewelry that is loud or wear any perfume. Keep it simple, smart, professional, well pressed, well groomed and she will be fine. Have a solid handshake and look everyone in the eyes. I can’t tell you the number or candidates who couldn’t walk in, shake hands, look us in the eye and say hi or introduce themselves.
