Interview Length

What Luigi is stating that the kid who is ranked as the 40th best candidate can lose out in this system and still be better than the 10th best candidate from a state where the educational system is lower or less competitive.

For example CA is very competitive and due to that fact they may be more qualified than the candidate who comes from Alabama, but the Alabama candidate wins the nom and the appointment. Thus, in Luigi's opinion there are lower quality candidates.

This may be true, but if we go from stats alone, you can see that those appointed have incredibly strong stats to begin with, so what are we truly talking about 10 more points on the SAT? I don't think you are going to see a wide range between the number 40 and the number 10. Additionally, there are prep schools for a reason, and that is to give them one more yr of academics before entering an SA. Which if placed into the median scores, my guess that would be why the median is about 1330 for the AFA. I would bet if those candidates appointed were removed you would see the median jump up some more.

By following that line of giving just to the highest 1600 WCS, than what would the class look like for NAPS, or do we just ditch that program totally?

Just for the record, I had my 10 minute interview on Friday. It might have been 12ish... But I agree, someone on the board could probably tell if you were legitimate on your reasons for a SA education just by the questions they asked.

Even if it was 12 minutes

Just wondering, did they ask anything you didn’t expect?

They asked several that I didn't expect. I wasn't ever asked the 'big two' (why do you want to attend a SA, why are you the one to get this nomination). They asked if I had ever been scared to death, if I had an AROTC scholarship app in the works, they asked why "all this good stuff happens to you" in regards to my resume. They wanted to know why I was only considering USMA, if I had been to the academy, what I wanted to do in the Army, and if I was ok knowing that when I graduated I would more than likely be sent into harms way.

For the time limit we had, it was a very comprehensive interview. :thumb:

Hope this helps, GOOD LUCK!!!

You could have let me guess all day and I wouldn’t have guessed the “scared to death” one. Also I would have immediatly assumed they would ask the ‘Big Two’. I guess every interview board has their own style. Personally I think it is kind of interesting to see how each MoC does the nominations (although I’m sure if I end up not getting one I would be not so happy with the system )

Good Luck!:thumb:

I wonder why they would ask such a question. They probably were wondering how you handled an unexpectant situation.

I think it is partially that and partially to know if you have experienced something life threatening before, as you may in the Army.

Approximate interview dialogue at this time:

Interviewer: Are you aware that when you graduate college you will most likely be sent into harms way? Are you comfortable knowing that and living with that while your high school buddies live carefree in college?
Me: Yes sir, whatever the Army needs is what our country needs, and that's the job I want.
Interviewer: Well let me ask you something here. Have you ever been scared to death? Terrified?
Me: (Was caught a little off guard) Yes sir, Once.
(Silence. The board wanted me to explain and I didn't know that going into the question. I did follow up with a case that could have cost me my life and still haunts me a little today. After my answer they just said "oh. XXXXXXX (my town) is a little bit rougher than the last time I was there.)

Just had my interview. They didn't ask if I was terrified to death ever, but they did ask how I felt realizing that I would be sent into harm's way.
