I have an MOC Interview coming up and I want to make sure my outfit would be appropriate. I plan to wear black dress pants, a blouse, and black dress shoes. Will this be a formal outfit for my interview?

Additionally, I have had some recent accomplishments athletically and academically that were not on my resume I submitted in the nomination application because they had not happened yet. I was going to print out my updated resume and pass that out instead; is this the right thing to do? Furthermore, should I point out the updates or let them discover the changes themselves? I do not want to seem arrogant at all.

Your dress sounds fine and is inline with other female candidates observed yesterday. It may depend on the interview panel. DS interview with first senator last month, he had opportunity to hand out resume (they didn’t have one) and they talked a fair amount. Yesterday’s senator panel had his resume and there was limited time to discuss accomplishments or experiences. He was only able to let them know he has an LOA. Otherwise they were more interested in understanding his character and personality traits. Two very different interview panels with different pace. He had wanted to talk more about his volunteering at warbird museum but he said it wasn’t possible. Just be ready for any kind of interview but it can’t hurt to bring copy of new resume.

I served on a Congressional Panel yesterday and had several young women come before my panel. ALL of them wore dresses or skirts. All but one of the young men wore a suit or sports jacket with tie. The only male not wearing a tie and jacket was in nice shirt and trousers. I don't think that their attire was a big issue at all as they all appeared to have taken time to prepare for the interview. A couple of them handed us updated resumes.

Another way of doing it would be to call the staffer and ask if you could send an updated resume with your latest achievements, in a professional and appreciative manner. This is if you have some time, in case the staffer is preparing paper or online folders for panel review, not the day before or morning of.

You should have the updated copies with you, no matter what. If you haven’t been able to submit the update in advance, yellow highlight the basic term in the added part (such as “team captain”), and when you hand them out, simply note you’ve highlighted new items since your original application

Outfit sounds fine. Avoid dangly jangly jewelry, strong scent and fussy hair. It’s a job interview, not a social outing.

Good luck - be yourself, don’t rush your answers, have a good firm handshake, and remember to breathe.
