Has anyone been called for an interview? DS completed AIM in person this summer, and his application is complete. Bears Den says "Interview Report (at request of Admissions)". Do they interview everyone?

No they do not interview everyone. They say that they will interview if they feel they need more information, but they also try to interview as many applicants as they can who they think have good potential. In previous years, you could request an interview if you definitely wanted one. This seems early for interviews though. I'm an Academy Admissions Partner, so one of the things that I do is interview applicants. We have not seen any list for interviews yet.

Most of the time if they did AIM they will use that as the interview. Our Daughter did her interview as the last part of AIM.

So an interview is a good sign? DS was emailed about an interview today.

Not all applicants that are offered an appointment are interviewed, and not all applicants that are interviewed get an appointment. But, it sounds like they want to know more about your DS, and that is good. The interviewer will not be looking for information about grades and scores, as that information is already in the application package, they are looking to know more about the applicant and what motivates them, how they have dealt with adversity, their leadership and teamwork, that kind of thing. The interviewer will most likely be an admissions partner, who could be an active duty or retired Coast Guard member, a parent of a cadet, or a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. All of them will also be able to answer any questions about the Academy that the applicant may have.

Agree with @VAcadetmom above. I would say an interview is always good if you can get one, it is just another chance to put your best foot forward. Interviews are two way, meaning once they ask their questions and get to know you, you can ask your questions. Come to the interview with a few questions as both parties are trying to size up if they are a good fit for each other.

Most kids bring their own stress to the interview, and everyone is nervous the first 10 minuets. Just relax and be honest, if you have got this far, you meet the requirements, now it is just about the intangibles. If your interviewer is active duty, they may invite you down to see the station if you are interested. I recommend doing so as you want to gather as much intel as possible about the USCG life you are considering. Sometimes they don't invite you down for a tour, don't read into it, maybe they are PCSing the next week, who knows.

There are three group of CGA applicants when it comes to interviews: 1. those the Academy knows they want to offer an appointment to, so no interview required, 2. those the Academy knows they won’t offer an appointment to, so no interview required, and 3. those the Academy isn’t sure about, so they request an interview.

Best to be in group one and not get an interview request. Better to be in group 3 and get an interview request. Bad to be in group 2 and not get an interview request.

Is this CG specific to not interview everyone? Do the other SA offer interviews to all who submit applications?

USNA BGO interviews are conducted for all Candidates that have a substantial amount of their application completed.
