What are ALL of the intramural sports offered at the Academy? I have never played basketball, rugby, soccer, handball, racquetball, or volleyball. Honestly, I live in Wyoming, so the options are a little restricted. However, I swim, run, and occasionally do triathlons. Is there any possibility for doing something related? I am somewhat an epic fail at basketball, soccer, volleyball, etc. Thank you!

you might try out for the women's IC swim team. it is a sport that if you practice you might surprise yourself

in the fall you won't have a whole lot of choice, especially as a freshman. we get the leftovers for the most part. but you won't be the only one with no experience in the sport don't worry. in the spring you can do cross country

Intramurals are really that competitive, so maybe it would be fun to try something new. Like Btown said, we do have X-Country in the spring.

but spring is FLICKERBALL season!!!

haha. honestly, you'll see what you get and make it as fun or miserable as you choose. my 3 dig year i got stuck with Rugby and we made it fun on our way to a perfect 0-9 season. We had bragging rights after losing to a team whose only win was over us.

irritating brown round thing

My kid is relatively tall and good at everything about basketball except when it involves that brown, round thing they fling at him.

He boxed and did cross country. Loved/loves both - who knew!

Boy, I thought Flickerball was something West Point made up. Surprised to hear they play it at USAFA. Wonder if USNA also plays? There could be some inter-service academy rivalry!

What I found from Wikipedia:

Flickerball is a group sport played with an American football in similar situations to dodgeball, such as Gym Class/PE (Physical Education) classes. It is played in a group of 6 to 40 players who are equally divided into two teams. The teams separate on opposite sides of an area such a gymnasium, parking lot, or field. The game is unstructured in terms of what constitutes or if there will be outs and the length of play nor time-outs. There are many rules and the game is structured most similarly to Ultimate Frisbee. One notable exception is that any shot on goal results in the ball going out of bounds which results in an automatic change of possession. This rule should mitigate wild shots hoping for statistical points.

Flickerball was first played at Davidson College in 1951, when it evolved as an alternative to touch football. The name "flickerball" was developed in the mid 1950s and the game is still a traditional game at Davidson College.

There's more if you're interested. Doesn't sound like a lot of set rules - remind anyone else of Calvinball?!

i had the honor of reffing eagle's game one time. always fun to watch haha

really? i didn't even know. lol. i get quite competitive on the field, so that could have been a really fun experience. you know which squadron we were playing?

hmmm lets see... it was that really cold day when there was snow on the ground... i was messing around with the team on the next field by throwing snow balls at them while reffing.. :) not sure what squad.. i think 19?

16. they didn't care at all, so we didn't either, and actually got close to losing until we realized how close it was. lol. playoffs this week!
