I certainly would say “confirmation” isn’t exactly the right word.
 
The report is actually pretty solid for VMI if you can separate the condescension of the biased law firm. In the report, the findings are based on hearsay, surveys, and statistics. I took the survey. It was biased and rarely asked for context or follow-up. The report clearly molds the survey responses to the law firm's opinion and hypotheses (i.e. leads the witness). The law firm never cited any specific case of actual discrimination, sexual assault, or honor court decision that had not been properly adjudicated. Further, the recommendations are fine and VMI has already done most of them with the remaining in progress. The real rub is that the out of state law firm (that is aggressively pro-diversity) states that the surveys and unsubstantiated charges prove systemic racism. On the other hand, VMI admits that there may be situations that arise with isolated bad actors but to classify unverified hearsay and Civil War statues as systemic racism is an overreach. Again, the law firm never identified a single instance where VMI turned a blind eye to any reported issue and punishment was severe. Lastly and importantly, three Board members (at least), the superintendent and commandant, and others have resigned over this. In contrast, the current Governor (black face/KKK hood picture), the Lt. Governor (two sexual assault claims), and the Attorney General (black face photos), have all refused to resign. For those three guys to say that VMI didn't take theses accusations seriously is gross hypocrisy at its highest. My prediction is that this does not have legs. There is no smoking gun. VMI will adjust and make themselves better.

You conveniently overlook the incident a few years ago when the sexual assault of a female cadet was not taken seriously and covered up. "Witchhunt" and "biased survey" are standard rationalizations when the message isn't a pleasant one.

You conveniently added "Witchhunt" to my statement. Nonetheless, the sexual assault stories are very concerning as they are at every college and in Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax's hotel room. It was unclear in the report how the cases were resolved (at least to me). In my reading, I didn't see a proven cover-up. I saw where the female said she reported it, but I didn't see where the law firm verified that it was reported and not handled correctly. Maybe I missed it. Regardless, the accusations and the recommendations offer an opportunity for VMI to improve. I'm sure they will.

Witch-hunt is the right term in this case. Pretty sure the folks at VMI and the distinguished VMI alumni realize this too will pass. A friend who is a VMI graduate said “as long as VMI doesn’t start offering night programs, online programs, and that sort of thing, I will continue to give generously to the Institute.”
VMI shouldn’t apologize for its past, just move forward in a positive way and continue to be the unique institution it is: The only Senior Military College in America today which produces cadets-only who strive to serve their community, state, and country.
Kudos to VMI for remaining true to its mission while adapting and adjusting to change. VMI will be better for wear when this witch-hunt wind blows in a different direction.

Cadets’ arrests bring attention to issue of campus sexual assault - Rockbridge Report

Five incidents of sexual assault have been reported at VMI in 2019, two of them this fall.

Maybe before your time but not quite what I would describe as "...not a proven coverup", "a witchhunt" or "stirring up the pot".

And agreed, the witchhunt winds will definitely change and VMI will still remain the rock that it is!
