I got this email from USMA. Does anyone know about this specific program? Not just overall visits, but this specific program. Anyone else get this invite as well? It says that it’s only offered to highly qualified and competitive candidates. Is that just talk? Or is it true? I did some research and I found something about “diversity candidates”, but I have no idea. Is this a good sign or something that is sent to everyone?

Sounds similar to this old thread from 2022. I have no idea if the information on this thread is accurate, or if it's the same program. I also saw this file from the WPAG which seems very similar to what you've described when you scroll down to the Admissions section. Either way, an all-expense paid trip would be amazing for you.

I wish I could go but I have Football unfortunately. I was just wondering if it’s a good sign because the invite called me very qualified.

Many of the automated emails I've received from West Point, probably sent to every address in their database, said things like "ugly" qualified.

However, the fact that they would be willing to pay for your visit is certainly a good sign. Most CCs are not invited to apply for that.

If I were you I would take it as a good sign.(that does not mean step off the gas)

Ugly qualified. USMA is setting the bar higher every cycle.

One of the better unintentional auto-corrects here on SAF, naturally funny. People who compete in that category really face unexpected challenges.

We should collect these in a special thread. I always think I will remember them, but I don’t. I know I had a spectacularly awful one within the last few years, but I can’t recall it now. Of course, someone here will produce it, no doubt.

I remember you having one. I couldn’t find it. 😂

I did find you mention the poster who used predatory school instead of preparatory.

That was perfect. I admit to having shreds of thoughts where The Predator, Alien, Dracula, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Freddy Krueger and Annabelle were chatting at the bar, etc., while at an alumni reunion mixer at their pred school.

Now back to original topic.

Many jobs ago my company posted a memo in which in which the obviously intended word “communicate” came out as “copulate”. That memo came down pretty fast. Interestingly, many of us didn’t notice the error right away. Our brains automatically filled in the appropriate word.

I got this too a couple of days ago, after my SAT score went through.

Yes, I am a minority (African American). My SAT score is a 1480. I also had my Candidate Interview a couple of weeks back, and my application is nearly done, so it could be those too???

Doesn’t matter why.

You are a candidate that they appear interested in.

Best of luck.

Wisdom, you do not need to send your stats to anyone. USMA is interested in you. I hope you are able to make it for a candidate visit and complete your application and nomination material.
Good luck and Go Army!

DrMom, I sent the SAT score through the portal for admissions, not for the visit. I do hope I can make it though, thank you for the encouragement!!

I really hope you can make the visit. Its really important in the absorb the culture and and a chance to connect with some of the people you would would be at USMA with. My son visited both USMA and USAFA, and at the end of the day, connected better with the students at USMA and really enjoyed the culture there as well. He most especially like the "Building Leaders of Character" aspect of USMA more. Beside, October is an AMAZING time of year to visit West Point.

Good Luck!

100% agree with you. I previously visited West Point two years ago in October; the views are incredible.

USAFA had a similar program 7 years ago.. the primary purpose was to allow people that might not necessarily be aware of the opportunity service academies provide.

I made a young woman aware of the opportunity. Now she’s starting euro nato flight training after obtaining her Masters from MIT after graduating from USAFA.

She had never considered USAFA prior to the program.

I think DrMom meant you didn't have to answer futurecadet29 when they asked for your SAT score and minority status. Neither are questions you should feel obligated to answer-especially not from anonymous strangers on the internet.
