iPad- incoming cadet

When my son visited West Point, he noticed that many of the cadets were using iPads (tablets). Does anyone know what we should get? I'm assuming they are not issued. Do we need just the WiFi or should we get a cell line for it as well?

You are not issued them, but I use mine every day for notes and highly recommend. You can use the regular Wi-Fi here to connect them
 
I offered to buy one for my 2026 cadet, more than once. He didn't want one, he said he didn't need it. He just wants to use the laptop issued to plebes. He's a minimalist.

Don't buy now. You can decide on it later (and buy the latest and greatest). Your son may end up not needing or wanting one.
 
Highly recommend if your son is intending on majoring in engineering, or if he likes taking digitally-written notes (think Notability). I did not get one until yearling year and really regretted it; my organization increased a lot and I wish I had had it for my plebe year core classes. Personal preference.

My kid has an iPad Pro with a keyboard and pencil. He uses it everyday.
 
We bought our son an iPad Pro and he uses it all the time. He is also a Mech Engineering major. The pencil is also a must.
 
Agree about engineering —one of the engineering instructors recommended my son get an IPad, so we did. It has really helped him keep notes and everything organized.

Get the pencil for sure to take notes and for doing math/physics problems.
Get a case that allows the pencil to be charged.

My son’s phone broke during plebe year, and he was able to use his IPad as a backup. This was very helpful since it took close to a week before we were able to get a new phone to him (shipping is not so fast to WP).
