Ireland - Navy Football Aug 2020

We have lived in Dublin for three years. If you have 1 week, spend 2 days in Dublin. Rent a car and head to the southwest and the Ring of Kerry and Dingle Peninsula. If you live near an airport that Norwegian Air services then fly 1 way to Dublin and then 1 way from Shannon.... we fly Norwegian directly to Newburgh to visit our WP cadet for $300 RT.

And use your blinker in those roundabouts. Ireland/UK they use blinkers moving lanes and coming out, but here in the US no one seems to do that. You'll avoid a lot of honks!

.....and driving on the other side is easy after the first roundabout

DH and I both admit to taking a few laps in a traffic circle while we talked through the reverse visuals! It was on our first trip years ago, landing in the AM at Shannon and headed to Cashel via Cork. Patient coordination and good comms between driver and navigator are a must.

And I swear the lorry drivers cackle with glee as they recognize the Yank rental car drivers hugging the side of the country road when the oncoming truck is bearing down. It feels like Blue Angel wingtip clearances.

A Guinness or Harp tastes really good after one of those drives, or a tot of Jameson’s.

Waiting for DD's appointment (remaining optimistic) and then will plan on getting tickets and planning travel. Have relatives in Ireland and Dublin for which I will be a great imposition:) 23 & Me told me I was 97.8% Irish & Scottish descent. The other 2.2% unidentified Northern European - guess this is what is called the margin of error in stats:)

MJ I think you get the Fly Over for your family. Rock of Cashel and the long walk up is worth it.

I don't play favorites when those two are involved. Both in the same glass, classic Black and Tan.

Hoping and praying we can go! Our DS 2021 will be a Firstie at this point! And with TON of relatives in Edinburgh, Scotland - we'll be making a 3 week vacay of it! Naemind the expensive packages...airbnb, luck and a savvy business/airline sense will save you $THOUSANDS! Be adventurous...memories are made of stories 0nly traveling will provide!

But they do play favorites in Ireland Republic and they know you don't know history and probably are an American tourist. Don't order a Black and Tan. As an aside, the whole Irish Navy is about the same size as the Plebe Class at USNA. At least that is what they told me. They were The Royal Irish Constabulary and very brutal.

So I just read that if you don't buy a package trip to the Ireland- Navy vs ND game, tickets are very hard to get. They said last time they sold out in 1 hour?? Anyone know about this?

My understanding is that selection for away games is no longer based on seniority (meaning 1/C get first chance to sign up) as it was in our day. Now, I think it's first come, first served after the signup period starts -- a current mid can correct me if I'm wrong. Doubt if plebes can attend as it's still first semester and typically they want to see a set of grades before they let plebes leave for a WE plus.

In terms of ND, my guess (and it's only that) is that they will fill the plane. If there are extra seats after the mandatory folks (team, etc.), then it MAY be opened to other mids. However, it's incredibly expensive and USNA doesn't have the budget to pay for hotel, etc. So, hard to say if mids will be able to attend.

DS is a Plebe, and was able to sign up for USAFA and ND games this year. Sharing that. Plebes attended both games.

If Mids travel to Ireland, will there be opportunities for sightseeing involved? Or will they only travel to and from? I can’t imagine the logistics of an oversees game.
