Hello! I currently have a 3.7 uw gpa and I'm going to apply to USNA. Every college admission website says this is way too low though. Am I screwed?

Nope. Depends on your entire package, and how it compares to the others on your slates.

Thats a solid GPA.

I think GPA variance is one reason why USNA looks at class rank so much. A 3.7 and top 10% is much better looking than a 3.7 and 50% ranking.

It also depends on whether you got that 3.7 taking AP calc, physics, etc or taking lots of fluff.

USNA is N*ot College.

You most certainly have a chance.

Your application to USNA contains far more elements than just your GPA. I can't speak to what other random college admissions websites are saying and it is very difficult to generalize. Some may provide good information, but others do not. Historically, 90% of those accepted have played a varsity h.s. sport, but that also means 10% did not.

My school doesn't do rank

Depends on the classes, your class rank (if they give it), weighted GPA, competitiveness of your school curriculum, location, etc.

To me? 3.7 is solid, regardless of where you are from.

The Class Portrait gives a rough overview of the activities, grades and test scores a midshipman might usually have. A 3.7 GPA by itself is not going to be disqualifying by any means, it depends on your package and the academy's judgment.

@ilovehockeylol. Academically, you absolutely have a chance. Your ACT/SAT matter even more, however. What is more, how competitive you are within your Congressional district and in a grander competitive landscape how you stand in your state matter even more when assessing your academic Quals. So get a great ACT/SAT score because that can trump your GPA. SA’s will use your college board score ranking as your standing in class rank against your peers. I would say this is about 50% of the weight. Then all else matter too like Leadership, Athletics/Special Talent, Recommendations, your Application Package, your ethnicity and gender. CFA, DODMERB pass, and Nom are other 3 must haves, except ROTC you don’t need a Nom. Once you get an Appointment or win a scholarship, before enrollment, you must pass criminal record/police report screening to get Permit to Report to an SA or ROTC unit for summer training.

Stay clean and persevere until you can report to your college or Academy of your choice!

Reassuring. I guess that 1580 SAT score actually did come in handy for something lol
