Is An Interview A Promising Sign?

I have recently received an email stating when my interview is scheduled for a congressional nomination. Does this mean I am competitive and they are interested or is it protocol to interview every applicant?

Our DS was told Monday that an email would go out before end of October advising candidates if they were selected to be interviewed. I imagine every MOC does it a bit differently. He was advised of the 2 weekends the interviews would be held and told to advise of any conflict. Good luck to you!

I think it is state specific. Our district in PA, if you successfully complete your application, both senators and representative will offer interviews. I have read on here some states are more selective. Good luck!

Each MOC runs their own show when it comes to noms so read any info they have published and contact the office if you have questions. In NC one Senator had everything done in Nov. The other didn't even interview until January. Also each of our Senators ask you to rank the top two SA's and would only consider you for one. They had a separate interviewer/panel for each SA and all interviews ran concurrent. They were both very up front that double noms are very rare from our Senators due to competition and the volume of applications.

Our House Rep also interviewed in January. It was far more laid back. One panel interviewed for all four SA's.

Good luck! Nom season is just getting started!

Thank you all so much for the replies! The MOC’s website said the nomination process for him is competitive. I’m hoping this is a good sign and will continue to do my best.
Competitive as in that is how he/she presents their slate? Or competitive as in this is 'generally a competitive process'?

Either way, good luck. Prepare. DS's MOC interview was in a room, where he sat in the middle in a chair. 3 sides of the room lined with a panel of 16 of our state's finest citizens. He did it on 3 hours' sleep after winning our state football championship. DS didn't remember much of it...make sure you prepare!

I will be sure to look over possible questions and think in depth about my responses. I believe they meant competitive in general. The email states I will be doing it through a video call, which makes me a bit more nervous.

Practice a video call. Practicing will make you feel more comfortable with the process. Which will help your interview! Congrats on snagging one!!

Make sure you have the necessary software configured to work correctly ahead of time. Fiddling with the setup/settings/microphone/camera, etc. during the interview makes you look unprepared and would be frustrating to those doing the interview. Have an uncluttered background in the video. Try the video software ahead of time with someone else. Setup you PC in a quiet part of the house where pets and/or small children (where applicable) won't be bothering you during the call. Turn off any social media/email alerts and/or phones that could ring/chime/beep during the call so you can focus on the meeting.

So our son got an interview email yesterday. It went on to say the board had reviewed all applications and that the screening was in depth, and very difficult. He was selected to be interviewed. He did mock interviews recently and is adjusting based on their feedback. What if anything should he take to the interview? For his mock interviews he shook hands and provided each member of the panel with his resume and letters of recommendation in a small folder. Any help/insight much appreciated.

Well, it's a good sign he made it through the first cut. There will be another cut to see who gets a nomination and then another to see who gets the appointment. Miles to go before you sleep...

Considering your son is from Arizona I will say it definitely does look promising, as I am also an applicant from your same state and was not selected for the interview. So best wishes to your son!

Oh, I am sorry. He has only heard from one of the 3 so far. Thank you for the well wishes, I wish you good luck waiting to hear back from the others.

In NJ, all candidates who complete an application get an in-person interview.
Senatorial Interview, the individual Congressmen may differ.

By the way, the NJ Senators currently have 347 candidates that they are scheduling for interviews

NJ senators are Nov 8th and 9th I believe?
347 is that for north and south jersey and for all academies? I thought it would be even more!
8th and 9th are the Newark interviews. There is another day scheduled the next weekend in South Jersey plus they generally do stragglers in the Newark offices around Christmas. The 347 is for all academies.

Thank you. Yes DS just told me he’s headed to Newark in two weeks. Our House rep interview is supposed to be 11/23 and 11/24, though he hasn’t gotten a definitive invite for that yet.
