Is enlisting guard and doing a year of college a viable option?

Son of a prior enlisted guy here, although he went active duty. If I enlist in the guard and get my year of training out of the way as well as get a year of high gpa college out of the way, is that a viable option to get into the academy? I already have too many varsity letters and leadership as well as my PPL, CAP and JROTC, all that great stuff, but my GPA (3.5) is too low to viably get me into the academy. Would enlisting and getting that year out of the way and then doing a year of college with AFROTC to get the nomination be a good way to achieve the prior enlisted appointment?

What are your standardized test scores? A 3.5 gpa will not keep you out of USAFA if your test scores are reasonable along with your other stats.

Why enlist in the Guard and go to college? Are you going to be a senior or have you graduated? If you’re a senior then get going on your application. If you've graduated, why not just go to college and do excellent then apply? Joining the Guard just for a nomination is really not a good reason in my opinion. You have other options.

Also, you cannot have too many varsity letters.

How long is your Guard commitment? Will your leadership support you cutting that short to go to USAFA?
