I’ve seen a lot of chatter about being out on hold. Is everyone at some point put on hold or is this just a foreboding sign that DS wasn’t put on hold and will ultimately be denied an appointment?

Once your file is reviewed and you are found to be academically qualified “typically” you receive a hold letter while the academy is figuring out the merit order for appointments. Hold is good. You will not go to hold status if you are not academically qualified. However, if you look at former threads there are a lot of stories of candidates going directly from “App on File” to appointment with no hold status. To answer your question- no not everyone will go on hold and some will get a decline but not being on hold right now does not necessarily mean a decline it may be they have not reviewed your file yet. Hang in there it’s still early and with COVID things might be operating a little slower.

My DS didn’t get hold status until the end of Feb when he went through the process...was on hold til early May when he ultimately did not get an appointment.. “qualified not selected” was the terminology at the time in 2018.

Thank you. DS was deemed 3Q for USNA and USMA so I cannot imagine he wouldn’t get the same for USMMA.
Trying to stay patient and I won’t ask DS because he is so stressed with all of this right now.
Good luck to all those in the running.

How did you find out your DS was 3q for USNA?

no worries...in retrospect I think he’d have been miserable there...thriving at A&M Galveston finishing junior year as a Marine Transportation major and has leadership with the Cadets. Enjoying his History of Rock ‘n Roll elective this semester.😀
